Now that Sky knew where Audrey -- or was it Alys now? -- lived, and now that he knew that it wasn’t the Sapphire House anymore, he somehow felt safer making a personal delivery of melonpan to her. If she was trying to be noble now, maybe she wouldn’t kill him on the spot if they ran into each other. The Nobles District, from what little Sky knew and from everything he assumed about it, was not a place to kill a kid in broad daylight. After he was released from Arwel’s captivity for the day, instead of making a beeline for the Cathedral, he dashed to the Baker’s Dozen -- pickpocketing a few loose-robed mages on the way -- and asked for a box of melonpan for Audrey/Alys and grabbed a handful of free samples of apple caramel cookies for himself. He still had the invitation to the party so he at least had an address, though having only ever been to Duke Rein-something’s once before and while in a tuba case of all things, Sky was lost and full of too much pride to ask for directions. A couple of hours passed before he found the correct address, and now hungry and thirsty, he debated whether or not to leave the box at the front gate, ring the bell, and run. Eventually, he decided not to do that: for one thing, leaving a box of pastries from the Baker’s Dozen unattended? Idiotic. Who knew if someone would swoop in and steal it? That’d be a lot of others’ gil wasted on someone Sky didn’t even know. Also, he had forgotten to write a note on the box, and Albrecht might think that it was for her rather than for Audrey/Alys, and that’d be a waste, too. So, he rang the bell, box in hand, and waited, bouncing on the balls of his feet ready to dash away as soon as he said what he needed to say. Genevieve did not recognize the boy standing in front of her gates. He was younger than most who dared to visit - she was not known for having visitors often, and fiercely safeguarded her privacy. It was perhaps one of the reasons so many had been truly surprised by Genevieve’s announcement to allow Alys and Juliette to reside on the grounds. But Alys was of Reinholdt’s Guild, and she could not begrudge Juliette a sort of sanctuary where she did not constantly have to be one of the nobility. It was a possibility that the child was here for one of her two guests, but she also could not discount the possibility that he was here for her. It would be a first to have an assassin ring the doorbell, but it was not something that she could easily dismiss. She had known her fair share of ninjas who would better be served as jesters. At least this one was young, should that be his aim. Still, she took caution when approaching him, keeping out of his vision until she was standing beside him. It had been happenstance that she was returning home at the very moment he came calling, but it served her well; she would not have to let him inside the grounds, yet she was still close enough to activate one of the many security devices positioned around the gates. “Might I help you?” Sky yelped and jumped. He swiveled on his feet to greet the source of the voice with an angry retort or scolding but stopped when he saw who it was. Was this Albrecht? She definitely looked really familiar. Clutching the box of melonpan, thankfully only a little bent thanks to his tightened grip from the surprise, he started slowly, “I’m looking for… Albrecht?” Crap, what was her first name again? “Or, um, I guess… is this where Aud--Alys lives? Now?” Genevieve bestowed the boy with a bemused smile. “If you are looking for Alys, this would be where she resides, yes.” She did not offer her first name; if the boy found her, then he could figure out her name on his own. “Shall I bring you to her…?” She trailed off, indicating for the boy to supply his name. He did not look particularly familiar, but if he knew Audrey, then it was possible the boy was Guild. Which meant if he were an assassin, then he would be the most idiotic one she had come across to date. Only the most foolish in Reinholdt’s guild would attempt such a task. A perk, as it were, of being involved with the Spymaster. “No, no, no!” he exclaimed, almost panicked. “If she sees me, she might actually kill me, even though--” A thought occurred to Sky then, but he decided not to risk it. Hopefully all these weeks had been enough to temper Audrey/Alys’ wrath, but he couldn’t be too safe. “Nope, I’m just trying to get her to not hate me anymore. Which is why I brought her these.” He held out the box towards the woman, lips pursed and his head sinking into his shoulders. “She likes melonpan. It’s her favorite I think. So could you give these to her? Say it’s from her… her apprentice. Sky.” A beat. “Min.” Apprentice? Well, now that was quite unexpected. She had not known that Audrey had taken one on. “She cannot kill you openly; it is not ladylike,” she said absently. She would need to speak with Audrey regarding this; she did not need to be privvy to all of her secrets, but something as public as an apprentice was surely something worth knowing. She took the box and nodded. “I shall see that she receives it, Sky.” The last name was the same as Peony’s, though she was unsure whether or not the surname was a common one. Still, it would not hurt to speak with the mage about it. “Unless you would like to come in and give it to her yourself?” If the boy was Audrey’s apprentice, then it would only make sense that he would want to see her. And Audrey had been quite busy as of late, so it was doubtful he would have seen his master recently. Not ladylike? But then Sky tensed at the suggestion. “Nope! That’s okay! Just… make sure she gets it!” A beat. “Please!” With that, Sky took off running, the melonpan safely in Miss (Lady?) Albrecht’s hands now. He could only hope that this would work out in his favor for him. |
