Oh, no. This wasn't going how Quen thought it would. Hot tears sprang into her eyes before she could blink them back. "Any boy, but not you?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She knew it was true, even as she said it. Merri didn't love her the same way she loved him. She felt embarrassed and exposed and ugly.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I shouldn't have said anything." She covered her face and felt the tears run into her hands as she turned away from him.
