A quick stop to the home of the woman who’d written to Amos; obtaining a quick sketch of the profane and troubling people she’d overhead; then a quick call to the Knights of the Peace; and then the wait. It took some time loitering in the civic district themselves, chatting amongst their two groups and eyeing the steps of the royal courthouse. Eventually, however, their targets re-emerged: there was a small group of people here, who planted themselves on the far side of the steps and seemed to resume a hushed argument amongst themselves. They were strangely attired, but their hodge-podge of ragged clothing spoke to their group being sloppy and not uniform at all. If they were an organisation, then they were clearly an odd bunch. Most of all, it wasn’t an auspicious place to linger. The homeless didn’t tend to ply the civic district; there was nothing for them here. So signs were favourable for these being be the people they were looking for. This time, there wasn’t even a need to draw steel. With the Kaplan observing from a distance, the four fighters strode up to the group – surprise made one of the suspects try to bolt, only to blunder facefirst into Raol. Siana silently brought up the rear, and a few minutes later the officers dragged in a few of the vagrants while the knights took hold of the rest, clapping them in iron and frog-marching them off towards the nearest guildhall. “Much better than last time, yeah?” Rictor joked, his grip tight around the arm of one stringy, weedy-looking man. No tussle in the sewers required, bleeding into the shit and muck. It was almost too easy. An hour later, their suspects were parceled out amongst the various interrogation rooms at the guildhall. ready to undergo the tiresome process of wringing information out of them, all repetitive questioning and relentless cross-examination. Not as impressive as bullets and swords and axes, but a necessary element of the job nonetheless. Time to begin. |
