"Pleasure's mine," said Kiernan as the other man took his place in front of the merchant to check out. As he did so, Kiernan considered a moment what kind of man Amos was to be buying a lot of food for children. Not a schoolteacher -- as much as they might love their students (and his mother, he knew now that he's older, adored hers), Kiernan never knew one who would buy food in that quantity for them. Was he maybe going to an orphanage? That seemed to make more sense.
Kiernan didn't know -- or frankly care -- if there was any supernatural being checking on everybody's good deeds and bad, but he did believe in paying it forward, so he reached into his coin purse and offered a small handful gil to Amos' payment. "Here," he said with a wink, "my good deed for the day. It's for kids, right?"
Then it was his turn to pay, and with some relief Kiernan was happy to see that he had gil leftover to pay for his groceries and then some. He didn't know if he'd ever see the other man again, but hey, good things come back around in all sorts of ways.
