Wil came strolling back with two rabbits effectively spit roasted. He held the stick end in one hand and grabbed up two fork shaped metal pieces and thrust them easily in either side of the fire and put the ends of the stick across either one. Then waited that precious second to make sure it would stay upright. Too many good rabbit meat had been lost to a hot fire. Wil took another second to push the log in further and put some of the smaller wood around it to catch blaze.
He really didn't like having to tend a fire so long. Altair was definitely not winning any awards for surprising survival skills for a noble.
"Alright, Merri-some, lemme show you how you set one athese up." Wil wasn't the best camper ever. But he'd spent the night in enough strange places to know some phenomenal survivalists. You pick up a thing or two adventuring with them. "Y'take the frame like this." He picked up one end piece and twisted it into shape, then the other. "Now y'stick'em together to make a frame." And did so. "Now y'cover and tie it." The oil cloth kept shape pretty well, so it molded around the frame and he started fumbling with the ties, getting them in place.
"Now if it rains?" He shrugged. "No problem!" Well, as long as you put plenty of dry grass and needles below your blanket to make sure the ground didn't get too soggy beneath you.
