"I take it you're acquainted?" she asked. "Rin and I have been friends," and colleagues, "for some time. Not through Hana, though." With a fond smile, Ari added, "She's rather wonderful, though she is always saying I'm going to kill myself with my appalling eating habits and shoving green things at me." Not that she minded green things, but Rin did take it rather to an extreme.
"The concert was not terribly exciting -- some pretentious modern atonal nonsense -- but I had promised my presence as a favor to a friend, and at least the surroundings were pleasant." The lie slipped easily off her tongue -- there had been no concert, of course. But she could not tell him about the cottage in the Feywood. Although actually, if she approached it just right... "It didn't snow while I was there, but there were bits of snow in the shady spaces between rocks -- and this was about a month ago! I fear it may have been left over from last winter." She wrinkled her nose in distaste as she said, "Imagine, how dreadful. But I did have an interesting time browsing the local antique shop and I found myself a project. The show owner sold me a jewelry box with a false bottom. I now have in my possession a stack of letters and a pretty little locket with a portrait of a mysterious young lady. I think I shall try to find out who she was, if the letters prove interesting upon translation. I have little experience with genealogy, but she is very sad and very lovely, this mystery woman of mine, so I believe I will put in the effort. Perhaps I shall avail myself of your research skills sometime soon?"
