“Your accent is terrible,” she said with a giggle. “As they tell young, struggling actors… don’t quit your day job. You’re better off as a knight.” She did not comment on the rest of it, though she certainly filed it away for later consideration. Aspel had mentioned her mother once or twice (not often; Ari had not failed to notice); with what Aspel had said and what Rictor now added, she had a general image of a childhood that was likely not to have been… particularly comfortable for someone of Aspel’s temperament.
She knew about being ill-suited for expectations, if not in entirely the same way. It made her a little sad to think of it.
“My parents are in Anjou,” she said willingly – her family history did not hold any demons. She and her mother butted heads regularly, but she had always been loved (if at times with extreme exasperation). “No siblings, though Bella’s about as close as it comes. We grew up in each other’s pockets – our fathers were friends. I go back to Ordalia periodically, but never for too long, lest my mother spring another surprise wedding on me. My spinsterhood concerns her greatly,” she added with obvious relish.
