Morgayne had left for The Roast early as well, finding herself too tense to concentrate on the mundane tasks that filled her evening. After accidentally rewashing her completed stack of silverware, she'd left the remainder of kitchen duty to the squire assigned the shift with her. Her complaint of "womanly problems" quieted his dissent immediately.
She arrived at the coffee shop to see that Juliette had already arrived—though her friend was mostly hidden behind a potted fern, Morgayne's gaze instantly drew to the small, pale hands clutched around a cup of tea. Besides, the only other seated patron in the cafe was a slouching, bearded man. She made her way over quickly, not bothering to order a drink for herself.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," she said as she grabbed a chair and sat down opposite Juliette.
