"I do not believe she is yet prepared to sell it on the open market," Peony was quick to reassure Lionel. "The thought had occurred to me that such an item might be... quite dangerous in the hands of someone who might not have good intentions. If the time comes that the expander is fully functional and complete, pending tests with larger spells, I have considered petitioning the Sage to purchase it for the Tower." Few could outbid an entire guild, and such an item would be a valuable resource for the guild when its members were deployed to various dangerous situations.
She paused to nibble at her pastry before lowering her voice and saying, "I am afraid is is the correct assumption in that particular matter." She had hoped not to broach such dark topics in this short respite, but Lionel had been absent for some time, and she thought he should be as prepared as possible for the inevitable resurgence of their necromancer.
She thought, as she often did in these moments, of a young flower seller, and her bouquet of peonies. The thought had a slow, quiet anger simmering deep inside of her. When she encountered the person responsible, justice would be done.
But these were not the thoughts she wished to engage in here and now -- she topped off her tea and Lionel's before saying, "I do wonder what we might find today that is ready for sale. The progress of science is quite fascinating, for all that my knowledge of it is so limited."
