Lex/Juliette| 5:30 PM - NOBLES DISTRICT.
Juliette took the letter and examined it with some curiosity. This young woman did not look like most couriers she had met, and she certainly did not seem to be in possession of the route knowledge that generally came with such an occupation, but… it was not regular post, but square, like one of the countless invitations to teas, dinners, hunts, and other sorts of parties that circulated in this district.
The name was familiar to her, too – Lady Aerin was a rather pleasant widow with a rather pleasant son (mostly pleasant because he was as disinterested in Juliette as she was in him, by far seeming to prefer the company of his valet, but that was neither here nor there), and Juliette had seen herself invited to various gatherings at that particular household on several occasions in the past. “I am acquainted with the lady,” she said. “Her residence is not far, just on the other side of the park.” Another moment of thought – pleasant or not, she didn’t want to end up invited in for a late tea or an early dinner, either – but she felt as though she should offer: “Would you like me to show you the way?” After all, once they were through the park, she could point out Lady Aerin’s gates and turn away before anyone ever knew she had been there.
