She watched carefully as he demonstrated, tying to memorize the angle of his wrist, his grip on the dagger hilt, and the way he positioned himself. Once he had finished and stepped back, she took the second dagger into her right hand and slowly repeated the motion – first with the flat of the blade, then the hilt, then finally, tucking the dagger into her belt, with the heel of her hand. The third felt by far the most natural – and she recalled, now, a movement very similar to this one of the katas taught in Sister Felicity’s class not long ago.
She looked up at him expectantly, assuming he would either correct her stance or confirm that she had followed his instructions adequately well.
