Her eyes had been locked onto the lines on his palm, the silly grin soon turning into a shy smile as he complimented her. It wasn’t often she heard compliments like that. Praises from men were usually on the value of beauty not hard work and ethics. It was endearing, even enough to fill her with some pride in the results of hours of training. No one really admired that and to see someone acknowledge that was all she wanted. These values were something she would miss returning to noble society but it was pointless crying over spilled milk.
“I usually drink mead. I’m not particular. I like ales, too.” Audrey shrugged. “I always felt it was easier to socialize with mead without the fear of getting drunk,” which to a certain extent was true. Unfortunately Audrey used to drink more than her fair share, though with each day she was finding more and more reasons not to indulge so heavily. Or so she thought. “Wanted to be classy?” Audrey grinned at him. There was no question about wine as a status symbol. “It’s okay. I have a secret dream to be sitting in some lofty library in a plush couch, swirling wine and talking about Emillion’s best literature,” she joked, though half of that was true.
“Yes, five questions. The evil twin brother of twenty questions, four times removed. Don’t ask me how that works.” As she said that, her voice emphasized as though she was telling a child a cautionary tale, complete with finger wiggling. His answer made her smile as she rested her cheeks in either palm and swung her head from side to side. “Aw, how cute!” She couldn’t help but grin at him. “You must have been a cute fifteen year old, I’m sure.”
It was at his last question that she shrugged. “It really doesn’t matter, but since we started it this way already why don’t you go next?” She leaned close again. “ Ask me anything!”
