Audrey said nothing at the comment of his mage robes, only raised her eyebrows and replied with a smile. Typically, any other person would have received a sassy response from her quick wit, yet Darius looked momentarily embarrassed. Shifting her eyes away, she didn’t want him to catch her noticing any of that. Instead she focused on the menu at hand. “Your robes are nice,” she commented, not looking at him. “But I also think you look nicer without them.” Faram, bless her heart because at this point it was committing seppuku on itself.
It was when Darius had reached to look at her menu that Audrey froze. Staring down at her hand was his—over hers. She stopped, but eventually remembered to breathe. A guy touching her hand was not the extent of her sexual endeavors yet here she was out of breath. She lowered her menu and glanced at the other one Darius had been holding rather discretely. They were the same. Did this mean he was? Was he trying to? It took every inch of her training to not break out into a contorted smile at what was happening. On the outside she remained cool on the inside, she wanted to text Ari immediately while doing her horrible pterodactyl scream.
A waitress came by and Audrey shifted her gaze to her with a smile. “I’d like a Waltz on the Moon. It sounds cute.” The waitress smiled and nodded to Audrey the looked over at Darius, waiting for his order before shuffling off to get their drinks. With her other hand, Audrey pulled away the menu and stacked it over Darius, not letting go of his hand. “Hm,” she mused, “So tell me about your day.”
