Red/Juliette | early in the evening - COMPLETE
“Oh,” she said, and of course she was blushing again, but it couldn’t be helped. She was often berated by Lady Demiel for being so very unamiable, and indeed, it seemed even virtual strangers could see through her no matter how well she parroted the social niceties expected of her. “It is not that I would rather be eaten by a malboro, it is…” and explaining that wasn’t going to help matters. So she stopped, took a sip of her own drink, and finished, lamely, “You are too kind, sir. Perhaps I oughtn’t detain you further?”
Then perhaps she could sip away somewhere to properly berate herself for insulting -- though he claimed he wasn’t insulted -- someone who had actually shown her kindness.
For a moment, Red looked as if he was going to continue the conversation. I know what it’s like, was on the tip of his tongue, after all — but who was he to dispense unsolicited advice? Instead, he nodded in agreement and bowed with a small smile.
“I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening, Juliette.”
