There was something I forgot to mention when we were discussing things previously. It's nothing of particular note, but a widespread belief in Serenitas that hasn't been mentioned for generations because it hadn't happened in a long time but [...] twins in the royal family were considered an ill omen and a sign of misfortune. However, there hasn't been another pair of twins for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Anyway, how is your investigation coming? I've been doing some reading, but I'm not sure any of it is of use.

So yet another person doesn't lose a day of learning because of burns, I want to post a few reminders.

When it comes to magic, remember your basics.

Right Movement While some skilled mages can use magic with just the wiggle of their nose, I guarantee you are probably not one of them. Not yet anyway. Right now, make sure your gestures are big and grand and complete. Practice this like you would with your swords and guns and gunswords and whatnot.

Right Words I understand some of you may not know how to use the language you grew up speaking but make sure you are saying the right words with the right intonations. There is a subtle difference between snowball and blizzard and it would do well to remember this.

Right Mind You need to concentrate. Yes, I know all this Donnersburg technology has split attention spans but make sure you concentrate on your focus as you build your spell. I know you'd rather be thinking of other things -- if the appearances of snakes and coin purses are any indication -- but it is important to shut your mind off to all distractions if you ever want to be a true master.

As usual, I am available for any questions. I have no idea who is spreading the rumor I give magical power in exchange for blood but while it did make me chuckle the first time I heard it, I do tire of it and the ones who could use extra tutoring are now afraid of me.

I do vastly prefer the depths of winter to the heat of summer. Dark does not bother me; it is an opportunity to reflect and look inward. (Which most of us sorely need, even in the best of times.) Time when the world stands still, and there is quiet.

Though it isn't quite the same in a city. How do you ever find any quietude in a land that never rests?

That being said, I would like to thank Mythilae faculty and staff for hosting the ball last month. It was [...] better than I expected it to be.
