It wasn't only her. "No, I feel odd here," he admitted. "But I thought maybe you would like it. The music, the food. Getting to dress up." Kevin looked up to see Justin and Megan talking to each other across the room. Justin seemed comfortable here, dressed appropriately for the occasion. He was being witty and charming while Megan, in her lovely dress, seemed completely in her element. Kevin watch her hand on Justin's sleeve, her glass raised in the other, her head tilted just so.
Kevin imagined these were the sort of things that couples do. Adult couples. Not kids like Kevin and Lisa, who stuffed desserts in purses. Or, in Kevin's case, completely distracted by his friend's bare skin.
"Nice!" He smiled when she mentioned the charm. "We should at least stay until the sweets are put out there." Kevin took another sip and tried to take the edge off. The band was back on, playing another familiar tune. "I guess we won't be able to request anything like Freebird," Kevin joked.
