Victoria wasn't much of a social creature. She tended to stick to her routine, getting her school work finished, going to her part time job, maybe going to the riding club if she needed to get out. Both of her parents worked for the Ministry, and they wanted to present a certain sort of image. Her mother laid out a nice dress and stuck her at a table.
She nursed a soda water and lemon and glanced around. No Ginny, no Demelza, no Kirke. She thought she could go talk to Justin maybe, but didn't want to disturb him with his girlfriend. She watched her parents working the room, she heard her father's fake "work laugh," as they ignored her. She picked at a stuffed mushroom, and wondered how long this whole night would take.
