Valentine's Day.
Ginny wasn't particularly fond of the holiday. Pinks, reds and whites never really went well with her skin tone, and the decorations - while unique - grew to be annoying. Most of the time she was able to ignore all the fuss that went into Valentine's Day, but after spending weeks watching happy little couples giggle over the charmed cupids and paper hearts around Diagon Alley, Ginny began to get angry. Each time a group of girls squealed with delight, Ginny pulled a sour face and shoved her way into the back room of Quality Quidditch Supplies. She couldn't take all the fuss, and what's more, it just reminded her that she felt pathetic at being single. Not that there was anything wrong with being single, she just hated when so much fuss was placed into being NOT single on a certain day.
Which was why about a week ago, Ginny's life started to look up. After the defeat of the Death Eaters, her boss approached her with a proposal to try out of the new brooms that came in. How could a girl say no? This was her chance to escape Diagon Alley and do something she really enjoyed. Her boss told her on Monday the last of the arrivals of the new Nimbus models, and the new Firebolt releases would be in and she would be able to take them out that afternoon. Coming into work right at 9 am, Ginny was ready for a day of flying new brooms. Of course, it wasn't meant to be all fun and games, she actually did have to test them out and see what should be mentioned in the promotions and what should not. But there was no harm in having a little fun while testing them.
Having Harry come along was just an added bonus. Especially if there was the potential for her to make a rather important sale with the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. That would surely bring some praise from her bosses. Not that having Harry around wasn't a bonus in and of itself... Merlin's pants, never mind.
At noon Ginny was all set up at Queerditch Marsh. Seven brand new shiny brooms were laid out on the grass, each of them shuddering and lolling about, craving the attention of the red head. One broom in particular caught her attention, the new and improved Nimbus 2300 series. Glancing over the information sheet, it boasted of going over 120 miles per hour and an enhanced turning radius. It was supposed to be nimble, agile and easy to use. Scoffing, Ginny rolled up the paper and lifted up the new Nimbus. It immediately tugged in her grasp, attempting to get into the air. Rolling her eyes, Ginny pulled the broom back, and mounted it. If there was one thing she learned about broom flying, it was to have complete and utter control and confidence. There was no room for being wary unless she wanted a broken arm.
The moment she found herself situated on the broom, the Nimbus 3000 rocketed into the sky. Dark brown eyes teared as the air whipped around her, leaving her breathless. As her ears popped from the change of height, Ginny brought the new broom under control, and managed to stop climbing. Gasping, Ginny laughed and looked down from her height. "Merlin's beard..." She chuckled again before guiding the broom to circle around the marsh slowly, just to get a feel for the mechanics of it. This really was the ideal way to spend Valentine's Day - hundreds of feet off the ground, doing what she loved the most.
