Cloaked and masked as she had been for the attack on Azkaban, Pansy Floo'ed into the Ministry, instinctually following Alecto Carrow. Pansy had been looking forward to a night like this for a long time — she had been restless ever since the unsatisfying night of casting the Dark Mark to stir up the Ministry. And the experience of helping Draco take care of his cat "problem" had left her wanting to use the Killing Curse on a human.
But her hopes were dashed the minute she set foot in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
Instead of a deserted department, the area was filled with people who were firing off hexes and spells, and Pansy's excitement disappeared instantly. They had been betrayed! It was the only explanation for the army that awaited the Death Eaters, but Pansy didn't have time to think about who had done it.
Hearing Alecto shout, "Leave!" Pansy was only too eager to obey. She still longed to cast Avada Kedavra, but the confusion was too great, and it was likely that she would hit some of her fellow Death Eaters. Instead she fired off some stunning spells and the like, shouting "Expelliarmus!" as she made her way as carefully as she could through the crowd.
On her way to the secret exit, Pansy almost tripped over a body, and she gasped in surprise when she was it was Rabastan Lestrange. Oh Merlin! The shock of seeing one of her leaders dead stopped her in her tracks, and only when a stray stinging hex hit her back did she start to move again.
The Floo spit her out into a random little town, but Pansy didn't care where she was. Now that she was out of the battle, her thoughts turned to Draco, who she knew had also been at the Ministry that night. She longed to Apparate to Malfoy Manor to see if he had made it out as well, but she knew it wouldn't be wise. Instead she spun on her heel and concentrated on her home, gulping in pain from her injured back even as she disappeared.
