Oliver had been restless all day, despite the fact that he had gone to sleep contented-have a pretty lady with you will do that. He spent the afternoon pacing his flat, waiting for the sign of when he could fight. As calm as he had been with Penny, the more wound up he became thinking about fighting the Death Eaters who had torn his family apart.
His flat had never quite recovered from that night his mother died, and part of him didn't want to fully fix it until she was avenged. Maybe tonight would be that night. He was close to mania when the first Patronus arrived in his sitting room. He had a moment of panic seeing it, thinking of the last time a patronus brought him news. He couldn't wait, he would go to the Ministry and wait, so he wasn't alone as he became frantic in his anticipation.
Arriving at the DMLE, Oliver was sure he talked to George and Ron and Harry at some point, but he was so focused on the upcoming fight that everything else faded away. He had to make sure his family was safe, that Penny would be safe. No one else should lose their mother or father, like he was forced to, or his friends were. When the word came that they were in the building and would be arriving shortly, Oliver gripped his wand and gritted his teeth-he was ready. Coiled like a leopard waiting to spring, he could feel the sweat pouring down his back. In a flash, the room was filled with masked figures, all of whom had wands drawn. Without time to think much, Oliver sprang forward and started dueling with the closest Death Eater. He could sense the room descending into chaos, but his mind was focused on the masked figure before him. He heard a string of hexes spewing from the mouth of the man, and his anger rose. Furious and with a strength he couldn't have imagined he had, he sent every hex toward the Death Eater in front of him that he could think of. He saw flashes of green fly all around him, and then he heard it. Next to him, a cackle as a Death Eater said, "Keep it coming Wood, you're no harder than your mother!"
Oliver saw red. Without even thinking, he aim his wand at the offending speaker, shouting, "You'll pay for taking her, you bloody bastard! Avada Kedavra!" He was surprised when the flash of green flew from his wand, though his opponent dodged his curse. Oliver was furious and relieved at the same time; how could he kill someone like that?? He regrouped and sent a quick body bind curse and stunned his opponent, just as he felt himself being thrown, hard against the opposite wall.
Before his world went black, he thought, Mother...I hope I made you proud.
