Settling into her seat next to Justin, Megan smiled at him in thanks. She picked up her napkin and smoothed it out over her lap, not wanting to even risk brushing against Justin. Her mother had some super x-ray vision and would surely catch even the slightest movement. Glancing up as Justin’s mother brought up the party; Megan looked at Justin for a brief moment. She supposed this time they wouldn’t actually have to pretend.
“Oh, it’s okay, Lia. I wouldn’t want to bore anyone else, so it’s fine.” She said, smiling at the girl. Megan had always liked her. “Besides, it would probably put undue pressure on anyone I was seeing.” Megan said, glancing at her mother for a reaction. Maybe if they thought she was seeing someone else, this would go easier.
“Oh? Since when are you seeing anyone?” Charlotte asked, pausing as she looked at her daughter, than over at Justin, hoping to see a flicker of jealousy. Preston leaned forward as well, suddenly quite interested in this conversation.
