"A reminder. That they can't scare me into joining them or fleeing," Miles answered. He waited until they had their drinks and were seated before adding, "I have absolutely no interest in joining them. I have no interest in dying young either, but I'm ready to defend myself. And if I die, it won't be as a murderer."
He took a sip of his coffee. "You wanted to know something revealing about me, did you not? I don't know what I believe anymore. But I do know that I'm not a fan of people dying over something like blood purity. And being a Slytherin doesn't automatically mean I want to join their cause."
He had a feeling she understood at least part of that.
