If Marietta was surprised to see Cho at her door, she was shocked to see her dissolved in tears. Her heart strings tugged, as try as she may to harden her heart, she couldn't help but love the girl. She led her into the sitting room in a daze as Cho explained about the death of Seth Capper. Marietta felt an unfamiliar sensation rise from her stomach-she tried to put ration and reason to it, but the only thing that made sense was that she was angry with Cho. She couldn't even quite understand why. Her anger turned to tears as she listened to Cho. However, they were tears for her father, not the Ministry jerk who got himself killed that Cho had seen for a few weeks and stupidly tried to marry. She closed her eyes, fighting the tears, and put her hand on Cho's shoulder in what she hoped was a loving gesture, pulling her friend in for a hug.
I cannot let her see my anger. It's too dangerous. Hug her, give her sympathy, say the right things, she said to herself, over and over. Cho asked for a drink, and Marietta rose and quickly went to the kitchen. She had some Elf wine in her pantry from Pansy's last visit, and took it out with a couple glasses. Handing the glass to Cho, she realized that she hadn't yet said a word to Cho, who was now looking at her with pain and expectation.
"I'm so sorry Cho. Of course it's not a bad time, I was just cleaning up. Mother's gone to sleep finally, so it's ok. I can...I can imagine that it must be painful. Loss is never easy, I know that of course."
