Luna had been out most of the morning, walking Lady. She'd had the last of her shots a few days ago, and was allowed to walk on her own now, and Luna wanted to make up for the exercise she hadn't had. She enjoyed taking long walks as it was, and it wasn't raining like it had been for the last few days, so she wanted to make the most of it. After a while though, Lady started begging at her leg, wanting to go home, and looking at the time, Luna realised she probably should, too. It was nearly lunch, and her dad would be making them something to eat, and would be worried if she wasn't back.
Turning back towards her house, she smiled to herself, and giggled as Lady started barking at a cat that was running up the hill they were going up, and she quickly picked her up, and snuggled her closer. "Lady, you shouldn't bark at cats, it could be a Kneazle, and then I'd have to take you to a vet. Some aren't very nice, but don't worry, you'll learn." She pressed a kiss into her coat as they reached the top of the hill, and then froze. The second she saw the Dark Mark, any happy thoughts she had disappeared. Her daddy was that way. She swallowed hard, her chest feeling tight, and she chanced a look down at the house. There were wizards coming in and out the house, and pacing the grounds around the house, and she ran as fast as she could towards her house.
An auror grabbed her shoulders, stopping her from going in any further, and she looked up at him, her eyes wide. "Please, I need to see my daddy." She blinked to try and stop herself from crying. Lady was barking at the wizard, but Luna couldn't bring herself to stop him right now.
"We arrived not twenty minutes ago when we were alerted the Dark Mark was cast. I'm very, very sorry."
Luna stared at the house, and said nothing for a long time. She didn't know what to do, what to say, and she was aware someone was speaking to her, but she couldn't hear what they were saying. "I need to see my daddy." She repeated, and she moved past him, stepping into the house. Everything looked the same. There were a few things out of place, scattered over the floor, and a chair knocked over, but apart from that, it all looked the same. Looking over the table, Luna saw her father lying there, his eyes wide open, and she moved to kneel next to him, just staring at him. She pulled her hand towards her, hugging it. He still felt warm. "It's okay, daddy. It's okay." She said, her voice wavering. A tear fell from her eye, and onto his hand, and she lay his hand down gently, and used a shaky hand to close his eyes. Leaning in, she gave him a kiss on the cheek, before backing away, and standing up.
Trying not to look back at her father, Luna focused on the stairs going up to her room, picking up her journal, and a few changes of clothes. She didn't know when she'd be back. She didn't even know where she was going to go.
She quickly left the house again, and sat on the hill, just staring at the house. The Dark Mark was beginning to fade by now, but that didn't change anything. Her daddy was still going to be dead long after it had gone.
