Draco took a long drink with Theodore at the toast to a pure future and once he’d lowered the glass he sat back in his chair and for a moment, simply let himself linger on how good that ideal was to him. How easy it all seemed sitting in a comfortable chair with an old friend; and how easy it all seemed when one wasn’t looking death through the tip of someone’s wand. Draco cleared his throat as he adjusted the thoughts in his head and looked at his friend. He listened to Theodore’s words, an interest pointed because he had, at least in some respects, disclosed his position and was met with not disapproval but what in Draco’s mind was understanding; an important distinction for sure.
Theodore’s predicament, and that’s exactly how Draco viewed the situation, was one that, quite honestly, he’d himself felt about Pansy until very, very recently. The other night with her had brought to light that she approved of his actions far more than even he’d realized and the meaning of that had not yet fully dawned on him. Draco was still nearly floating with the elation that she was proud of him to worry much about why she might be so supportive as she was that night.
Nevertheless, Daphne Greengrass was an entirely different sort of bird – for even before Pansy became as vocal about her beliefs as she’d been recently, Daphne was never, at least that Draco could recall, seen to be that outspoken. Additionally, it wasn’t unknown to Draco that Theodore seemed have his eye on Daphne. To Draco, it was nearly obvious whether Theodore noticed it or not, but it was none of Draco’s business so he let the issue lay until if and when Theodore wanted to bring it up.
Draco nodded and let a mumble of understanding escape his lips as Theodore spoke of Daphne. “That is a difficult one to maneuver.” Draco started slowly, choosing his words with care and precision. “Do you think it’s that she would be opposed or do you think she would simply rather not know?” He asked in a contemplative tone, suggesting the fine line between disclosure and omission.
