"You know what you're problem is? You are not good at avoiding people." Sally couldn't imagine how this woman had managed to weasel her way into the life of a young man a fraction of her age. Sally was a master at polite conversations with strangers, giving them just enough information to not seem rude but with a list of extra strategies once people got too clingy.
"Once you give someone an "in", the next thing you know, they're appearing out of nowwhere. Chatting with you. Showing up at your doorstep. Then they start to become a part of your life. You start to expect them to be around. It's really a downward spiral."
