Who: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
What: Talking.
Where: Their flat.
When: Wednesday evening.
Rating: I can never guess.
Though Hermione understood Ron's desire to just get through Thursday and then will on the new year, she didn't quite share his sentiments. Most people seemed to be looking forward to new beginnings and new chances, not to mention the assurances that the new year had to be better than the last. She could understand where they were coming from, and she sincerely hoped so herself, but the one thing she had going for her, even with the ups and downs of the year, had been that she knew exactly who she was and exactly where she was going.
Now? Not so much.
It did seem silly to keep writing about it when Ron was sitting right next to her and she could just talk to him, though she had written in the first place in the hope that she could avoid the potential subject of discussion altogether, at least perhaps until the weekend. But it didn't look like he was going to accept that, so Hermione closed her journal and set it down beside her.
"Only days away from a new year," she began. "I know you, and most people for that matter, are looking forward to it, but don't you think it still feels a little odd?"
The whole concept itself was odd, the clock ticked over just an extra thirty seconds and suddenly it was 1999. But that's the way it was, and she couldn't pretend to be looking forward to it.
