"I can't believe I did either," Ron admitted. "I should have asked Harry for help, but I managed. Mostly."
He looked around for the gift from Harry, saying, "We need a tree, next year," before spotting it on the kitchen table. Well, that would have been hard to miss for too long. He got up, grinning as he pulled away the wrapping paper. It hadn't been hard to guess that he'd gotten a broom.
But he was still surprised, staring at it once it was unwrapped. "They only released these earlier in the month," he said quietly. Ron had never owned the latest and best broom before and he stared at it in awe for a moment before setting it back down.
Sitting next to Hermione again, he looked over at her. "Thanks, Hermione," he said quietly. The day could have been much worse, but somehow it had turned out alright.
