Astoria looked stunned, but it was far more about his tone and obvious anger than his heated accusation. Most of the girls she knew made no bones about wanting financially safe romantic matches, especially those in Slytherin. She personally had never ranked a man's pocket book terribly high in her list of desired qualities, but had no problem with others thinking she did. Utterly unapologetic and unabashed, she merely blinked at him in silence, frustrated by his obvious anger and continuing to feel at a loss for how to deal with it.
Finally, she shook her head and opened her mouth to form a reply. "That's not true," she said firmly but not unkindly, "At all." The fact that these few words were muttered softly did not take away from the force of conviction behind them. Crossing her arms protectively over her chest, she returned her gaze to the fire, finding it easier to hold onto her temper when she wasn't looking straight at him.
"But even if it were, so what? Who wouldn't want to marry someone of importance? You're a Slytherin, you should respect that everyone has different aims and will plan their lives accordingly."
