Who: Nox & Polly
What: Interaction during open block
Where: Front steps/Outside
When: Approximately 11:10 am on Monday April 6th
Rating/Warnings: TBA
Status: in progress

Yet another roll call, it made Polly extremely uncomfortable and in turn hostile. She had to cover up her fear of death and these attacks with something; it was lies and a bitchy attitude. Once more Polly was lying to herself telling herself she didn’t need to worried and things were going to be just fine in the end. She kept lying to herself and telling herself that the Aurors were here to protect them. So far they were doing a crappy job, just as the professors were. Polly had an uneasy day in Potions, which was saying a lot. She had nearly spoiled her potion but she had managed to save it. Polly’s mind was elsewhere, but when asked she just snapped back that she was fine and for people to stop asking. Polly claimed to be just a little tired; poor sleep from the night before.

Finally her class was done for the day, only Study Hall at the end of the day to break up her freedom. Study hall was a waste of her precious time, she did not want to sit and be forced to study but she supposed some people needed the encouragement. With NEWTs around the corner she perhaps should start using her time more wisely, but why would she do that? Polly much preferred to spend her time reading or bothering other people. Polly had gossip to keep up with.

Polly decided that fresh air was a must at this current moment in time. The stink of potions lingered in her nose and on her clothing; she needed out of the dank dungeons and into the fresh air. With some papers clutched in her arms and her bag resting on her shoulder she b-lined it out of class. She didn’t talk to anyone as she passed only muttering a few unkind words at someone in her way. Did people not acknowledge their surroundings anymore? “Move it space case,” she spat out angrily as one of the rare younger years crossed her path. All she needed now was to take one of Polly’s clumsy falls and the moment would be perfect.

Her tell tale fall did not occur until she was out the main door and tripping down the front steps letting her papers go flying. Skirt flipped up she was sure and knees scrapped. Her papers now fluttering elsewhere, at least it wasn’t raining. “Bollocks and fucking Merlin.” She yelled as she tried to right herself but slipping in the process.

Well, if they had anything in common, it was a fear of death -- and that neither could truly admit this, as Nox always knew he had to keep up his man's man, stupidly courageous image (and it was that same stupidity that probably kept him out of Gryffindor), but the events of the previous night invoked more than just a fear of death. He was beyond delirious, the result of absolutely no sleep and a lot more throwing up than he'd ever admit to anyone outside of his roommates; nevertheless, he'd managed to act no more spacey than usual for the majority of the day thus far.

Of course, the general inability to stomach down food -- he thought he'd be over it by now, but there was just so damn much blood and his mind kept flashing images to remind him of how lucky he was that his midnight ventures hadn't landed him in the same place -- resulted in the choice to skip lunch and go outside until his Arithmancy class (where the world made sense because math never changed.) Most likely, he was going to smoke a bowl or try to pass out, but neither of which seemed probable at this point because he just wasn't in the mood.

It was pure coincidence that Nox found himself stepping outside of the front doors just as Polly managed to trip down them. Indeed, her skirt flipped up and he got quite the view of her undergarments, certainly enough to send Nox back into his generic wits. Besides, he was a decent actor, one of the perks of growing up with a theatre troupe, and he knew to maintain his composure when someone that ... well, wasn't one of his best friends was around.

Thus, he let out a small chuckle at her plummet to the ground and crossed his arms over his chest, that usual amused, cocky smirk resting upon his face as he watched her scramble and curse for a few moments until he decided his entertainment was over. With that, he stepped down, leaning over to pick up the dropped papers before extending a hand out to her, raising an eyebrow with an annoyingly arrogant, "Need some help?"

As soon as she heard the rustle of her papers being collected she knew she had given someone a beautiful show of her knickers. “Great just great,” she mumbled to herself through clenched teeth. She was sure that by now at least half the student population had seen her knickers at some point in time, and none of it from normal hormonal adolescence behaviour. Never had she done anything like that but the fact of the matter was she tripped up over her own two feet too often flashing the world her underwear. At least she had a nice selection of underwear making the entire situation less embarrassing because she would truly be ashamed if she had on a pair of dingy dirty knickers.

“I don’t need your help,” Polly snapped as she steadied herself and got to her feet. She shot him and angry glare, the only reason for that being her own embarrassment. She snapped the papers from his hand. “I bet you got a lovely show didn’t you.” She pursed her lips in her annoyance as she bent over picking up her bag from the ground and shoving her papers into her bag. Polly was disorganized at the best of times so she had no issues with crumpling her papers to get them out of his hands and her own. “I bet you enjoyed the black lace trim didn’t you!” Polly voice held and edge of disgust, though she did particularly like the panties she had picked out for the day so conveniently.

Had Polly not been in such a hostile mood today thanks to the panic induced state the school was in and her inability to properly cope with death she might have been more amused by the situation. Polly was no flirter but she might have found the humour in tripping down the stairs and show Nox her underwear. Of course that is a big maybe.

Polly flattened out her skirt and looked up at Nox. That boy was annoyingly tall, she always felt like she was craning her neck to look at him. She did feel a tad taller though but she would chalk that up to being on a different stair than him. “Don’t you have class or something?” That comment was laughable because even if he did have class Polly had no authority over him, plus he could easily pull that on her. Lunch wasn’t far off now though, something Polly didn’t even want to think about. Forcing down breakfast had been enough for her.

He simply emitted another light chuckle at her display of defiance, endlessly amused by the huffy anger and the front she put up to make herself seem -- actually, he wasn't entirely sure what she was going for; it was clearly impossible for her to intimidate him when he was so resoundingly taller than her. Nevertheless, Nox could somewhat understand her frustration, considering he figured that if he were a girl and he had a bit of a habit of accidentally showing his (hers? This hypothetical gender switching thing gets so confusing) knickers off to the student body, (s?)he'd be pretty irate too. (At this point, Nox would make a mental note not to try to reason things involving gender switches.)

Raising his hands up to his chest, Nox made a mild signal of surrender once she furiously tore the variety of papers from his grasp, laughing ever so lightly along the way. "It's nice to know that some girls whine about how chivalry is dead while others throw a hissy fit when you try to show them it's not. And then you lot wonder why we blokes get confused," he teased, dropping his arms back down to his sides once he thought her tirade had settled some. Stepping towards her so that they were on the same stair -- casually, of course, as if he were simply walking past, -- he stopped to once again quirk an eyebrow in her direction after the barrage of comments about her knickers.

"Oh, quite, really. I enjoyed the show, as you so eloquently put it," he gently taunted, continuing past her, looking over his shoulder in order to keep her in his sight as he addressed her. As he continued speaking, however, he turned to face her back, just because of the little stunt he'd already planned in the process of about, say, two seconds, "But naturally, I must say I think they'd look better crumpled on the floor. Next to the rest of your uniform, of course." And then leave it to Nox to have so little tact and such the audacity to lightly smack her backside to show his approval. He couldn't help it -- there was just so much fun to be had in making such a prude so flustered.

At the inquiry about his classes, Nox flashed that charming smile and matched stairs with her once again, slinging one arm around her shoulders because he just knew she'd hate it as he replied, "Don't worry about my classes, love. I'm yours for the entire afternoon until five -- when I've got Arithmancy and all. But I can probably skip it, since I know you're just dying to spend the remainder of your day with me, no?"

Irate did not actually Polly’s feelings on the subject of flashing the world her underwear, though it did cover her feelings of life in general. Polly was no pleased at how things at Hogwarts had taken a turn, things were not getting better they were getting worse. Polly had enough to worry about with her end of year exams and finding a career path for after school, she shouldn’t need to worry about her safety. Not only did she have to worry about her own safety she had to worry about lying to herself and telling herself it wasn’t as scary as it was. That was enough to make her irate not flashing the world her knickers, she got over that long ago.

“Chivalry!” She said her voice peaking near the end of the word in her anger. “I don’t need chivalry from you.” Polly was angry and she could feel it bubbling up inside her. Polly was in the mood to deal with Nox’s flirtation even if on a regular basis it amused her. Polly was only female and to get a bit of attention, no matter how annoying it was, was nice. Unfortunately now was not the time for a bit of friendly flirtation on Nox’s part.

“Good I’m glad, it is the only one you are getting.” Polly let her eyes follow him with her arms crossed over her chest until he was no longer in her view. She turned her head to watch him for a moment uncomfortable with having him behind him but she didn’t want completely show that by turning around. It appeared she had a right to be a little nervous as she felt a light smack on her behind. “Oh I bet you would like them crumpled up on the floor, but you will never experience that.” She stressed the word never. “And never smack my bum again.” She narrowed her eyes on him watching him carefully.

Feeling his arm move around her shoulder she looked up at him. Why did he have to do that? Polly hated to acknowledge her height and he was blatantly taller than her. “I don’t want to spend my time with you.” She said nudging him with her elbow but she really not putting up much of a fight to make him move. Polly actually enjoyed the comfort of his arm a bit but she was not easily admitting it to herself and never would she say that out-loud.

The senseless banter and flirtation was, admittedly, a good distraction for Nox from the images of Lysander's corpse that kept appearing in his mind, flashes of the runes cut into the pale expanse of his back and -- no, he thought, mentally chastising himself for allowing his mind to wander back into the dark depths of the previous night's events. Nox liked to say he led a charmed life; he hadn't quite experienced any traumatic events until... well, now. But now he had something else to occupy his time while his close circle of friends was in class or occupied with homework or studying or Merlin knows what else, and he wasn't too keen on losing his distraction any time soon -- Polly would have to work significantly hard to get rid of him.

Another small laugh came in response to her outbursts, that near-mocking tone never once leaving his voice even in his laughter. Nox, admittedly, enjoyed the resistance; most girls had more of a tendency to fawn over him (because girls were girls and they liked the attention) and the fight was far more entertaining and thus more capable of occupying his painfully short attention span. Regardless of how truly irritated she appeared from his musings, Nox could reason that she was enjoying herself just as much as he was anyway.

"I wouldn't be so sure -- about the last show or the chivalry," he simpered, "After all, I'm sure every girl wants to be swept off her feet." And he did just that, sliding his free arm (as the other was still in place around her shoulders) behind her knees and easily picking up her small form. While not an entirely common feat, Nox made a small note that recently, he found himself in such a position more than he probably had in the rest of his life combined. "And the last girl who said that I'd never get to experience her... well, I swiped her v-card by the end of the night, if you catch my drift." And it was true, to an extent -- of course, he should've remembered that he tried to avoid thinking about his open relationship when he was with other girls. Not that he'd seen Fiona in God knows how long, anyway.

"And now, you have no choice but to spend time with me because I'm way farther off the ground than you are." Oh yes, he just had to make the height sneer. Nox was probably having more fun with this than he would normally, but, then again -- he did need the diversion.

Polly didn’t have images of Lysander flashing in and out of her mind but she couldn’t get the fact that someone else had died off her mind. She was not close with Lysander, she really only knew of him but still he was gone. Polly did not easily accept death when Dalia died and it wasn’t getting any better with the body count increasing. Polly wanted to think about other things and despite the fact she was trying to fight Nox off he was a fantastic distraction. It was a lot of work to lie to ones self constantly that the affects of the world were not bothering her, but it was much easier to let someone distract them.

“Well I suppose if you happen to be in the right spot at the right moment you could get another show when I inevitably trip.” She doubted she would ever like the chivalry especially from Nox. The fact he flirted with everything that walked was rather infuriating and Polly hated that she liked the attention. Flirtation was not something she could do back and even if she could she doubted she would flirt with Nox because he flirted with everything. It was just a big internal battle going on over whether she should like it or not.

Polly actually let out a bit of a squeak as she was scooped up into Nox’s arms. She pulled her bag closer to her and looked at him as if he was nuts. “Excuse me!” A pregnant pause hung for a moment, “What the hell do you think you are doing?!” She looked at him rather stunned he had actually picked her up. “Put me down!” She did not want to be dropped as she would much rather be placed.

“Who says I have a v-card to swipe?” She looked at him with a raised eyebrow, of course she had one but she didn’t have to go admitting that to everyone now did she. Polly looked down at the ground and back up at him. “If you drop me I will kick your ass.” Polly knew that was an empty threat and she probably couldn’t kick his ass anyway. Polly really disliked the fact he was so much taller than her and made her such an easy target.

"Clearly, it's not that difficult," he reminded her about the whole spiel about being in the right place at the right time. Nox was perfectly aware that he was a shameless flirt, but he didn't understand why some (most) people regarded that as a bad thing. Didn't it just mean that he liked people and he was friendly? Whatever. Girls did have a knack for sending mixed signals, after all, and in Nox's mindset, that was just so obviously what Polly was doing -- playing hard to get, and whatnot. Wasn't she the one that had the rumor passing around about how she lied constantly? Who knows, Nox didn't bother much to keep up with all of the school gossip unless it involved him.

"I think I'm sweeping you off your feet, obviously. Didn't I make that perfectly clear?" he replied with the best matter-of-fact tone he could muster. Just for the principle of the matter, he stayed put on the step, allowing her to continue on with her small rant. As she demanded to be put down, however, he only strengthened his hold on her, assuring her without words that he had absolutely no intentions of returning her to the ground any time soon. "I don't think so. You're my source of entertainment for the day, so I have to make sure I keep you around."

While she proceeded to comment about the v-card bit, he only raised an eyebrow to match hers, quipping, "I'd be kind of surprised if you don't, considering how you react to everything, but hey -- I was just telling a story, not trying to imply that you have one." However, at her threat about dropping him, he gave her a teasing smirk before letting his arms drop for less than a second before he caught her once again, having the significant effect of allowing her to drop about an inch before he raised her back to the initial height. "Just relax, shit. I'm not gonna drop you."

“Maybe it isn’t that difficult but that is the only show you are going to get.” Polly just hoped she didn’t have a reason to eat her words later. Polly was not playing hard to get, she was just being and would prefer not to be flirted with but she was having a hard time really putting up the fight to stop it. It appeared no matter what she did Nox was going to continue in the fashion he wanted to continue and there was nothing she could do about it.

“Me your source of entertainment? What happened to the many other people that walk these halls we call a school?” What made her so particularly special at this moment in time? Was it because she flashed her knickers accidentally? Was it because she resisted his advances, or was it purely due to the fact she happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Polly would put her money on the latter if she had to bet anything.

Surprised that she didn’t? What was she that much of a prude? “Well then I guess I do a good job of keeping my life private now don’t I.” Truth be told Polly had only kissed a boy and that was once, she had never even had a boyfriend not that she couldn’t blame the male population on that. Polly was not exactly friendly and she didn’t go out of her way to change who she was just to get some boy.

Polly screamed as she felt herself drop a bit, she couldn’t stop the scream from slipping out of her mouth. “How dare you!?” She screeched at him but in her anger she had wrapped and arm around his shoulders for fear of him doing that again. “You really do have a set of balls don’t you.” Polly said with a roll of her eyes and looked away from up and up at the sky. “So since you aren’t putting me down where are we going and what are we doing?” Pausing she looked back to him. “I do have a right to know.”

"Oh really? How do you know that I can't see them right now?" Actually, he couldn't, and even if he could, since it was relatively probable in their current positions, he wasn't really looking. Of course, he wouldn't let her know that much information because it would stop any reaction he could stir out of her. Make her regret sounding so self-assured that she wouldn't flash him some other time, and all.

"Well, most of my closest friends are busy doing something boring, so I guess I'll have to settle for you for now. Honestly, you should be honored that you get to spend so much time in my presence or whatever." Not that he was entirely serious about that; he didn't really have such a high and mighty image of himself as he pretended to. There were simply certain things that were expected of him, and Nox was the type to live up to his reputation -- hell, he wasn't even this bad of a flirt until people started essentially telling him that he was.

As she shrieked, he returned to that confident smirk, reminding her, "That's what you get for doubting me, little girl. And calm down, I'll tell you where we're going once I figure it out," while he located a decent place for them to relax -- a fairly secluded area near the lake, which Nox was quite certain was the same setting that the school's gossip monger had accused him of spending 'quality time' with Simon in. "We're here," he told her bluntly, placing her down on the ground especially slowly just for emphasis.

In a matter of maybe thirty seconds, he sat down on the ground against a tree, pulled out the regular stash of weed, rolled it into a joint, lit up, and took a long draft before offering it over to Polly. "You smoke?"

Could he actually see her knickers? Polly did not want him seeing her knickers but unfortunately in this current position she couldn’t do anything about it. Even if he could see them she wouldn’t be able to change that and she couldn’t even see if he was telling the truth or not. “I am quite sure you cannot see my knickers, despite how much you want too.” Whether she believed it or not was not the issue here but she had to save face.

“Honoured?” She raised her eyebrow at him as she adjusted her hold on his shoulder. “I think you should be honoured your spending time with me.” Polly smirked as she spoke actually joking on the matter. Nox was turning out to be a fantastic distraction and it was just what she needed. Her focus on him as walked to their destination, which she had begun to accept was not up to her.

Polly felt him put her down and she was quite pleased to be on the ground, but he had definitely done it much slower than necessary. If the ground had been a bed it would have been slightly sensual and romantic, but Polly was not going to let her mind go that way. When settled on the ground she put her bag to the side and moved to lean her back against the tree settling next to Nox.

She turned her attention to him as he rolled a joint and she watched him carefully. “Yeah I do,” she said as she took it from his hand. After long inhale she held it back over to him blowing the smoke out slowly. Maybe hanging out with Nox was not a bad thing.

"Honored to spend my time with you?" he snorted, although he was entirely aware that she was kidding, "Listen, lady, I hate to break it to you, but people actually like being around me. Therefore, my time is a little more valuable." He assumed she wouldn't take the comment particularly offensively if he didn't mean it offensively, which he made evident through the light manner of his voice. "But you could just relax for once. I'm really not such a bad guy."

As she returned the joint to his eager grasp, he took a second long inhale, closing his eyes as he did so, inhaling sharply once he felt his mouth and throat were full to lead into a coughing fit. While some regular smokers would tease the 'newbies' who coughed, Nox did just the contrary: he believed you might as well inhale as much as possible to ensure coughing because it got you high faster. After a second drag, he followed the regular puff-puff-pass rule, handing it back over to Polly as he exhaled steadily.

"So," he began, looking over to her, "I saw Lysander when he was all ... you know," he confessed. It wasn't something he made a habit of telling people -- in fact, he didn't think anyone knew outside of the others that were there last night and his dormmate and best friend, who had to deal with his lack of sleep. But as the effects of the smoke made their course throughout his body and he could feel his eyes beginning to gloss over, it was easier to admit the things that were bothering him -- even to total strangers.

“Actually like you! Wow.” Polly chuckled a bit joking completely just as he had been light hearted in the dig he made at her. Polly knew she was not a favourite here at Hogwarts, not everyone liked her and quite truthfully she liked that. Polly was not out to be friends with everyone, she had enough to suit her and she was quite happy with them. “I am relaxed and I know you are not such a bad guy.” She flashed him a quick smile before letting it vanish from her lips.

Polly watched him as he inhaled the smoke and even winced a bit as he coughed no doubt taking in as much smoke as he could. Her attention was easily distracted to his lips as it went around the joint and her eyes followed the flow to his fingers as he held the joint between them. It was then that she noticed he was holding it out to her now.

She placed it between her own lips and inhaled deeply, as she was breathing out the smoke she coughed hard, not because of the smoke but because of what Nox said. “You saw him,” she said looking up at him with a bit of stunned look. “I don’t know what I would have done.” She felt her lower lip tremble as she said that, she hated that her lower lip did that when she said truths that she didn’t want to admit. She wished she could have just said nothing at all, or said something more to keep the focus on him. “How you holding up?” She asked him as she held the joint out to him. “Is that what I’m here for a bit of distraction from recent events?” An unintentional giggle escaped her lips which inspired another one, “Sorry I’m not laughing at you.”
