So she was like him -- but also more. More vampire. More immortal. More -- stuck. Riley tried to look at her with compassion instead of pity. He wouldn't have wanted the latter, in her shoes. Probably wouldn't have known what to do with the former, either.
"I knew a guy once," he said softly, "used to think there's a point to all this. The parties and the people and... all of it. Then he went looking for it in every holy book and every philosopher's magnum opus. Couldn't find it. Starting to think he was maybe looking in the wrong places."
Maybe the right place was -- right here. Living, so you could maybe find the point of living.
