Dahj tried not to calculate the probability that she had found yet another famous, historical captain of the USS Enterprise to help her in her time of need. Jean Luc Picard was elderly, but finding him on Earth in her time was at least probable.
But a young James T. Kirk in another time and dimension? It had to be a simulation. It was the only possibility that made sense to her. She thought about what Jake Pentecost had said to her: he thought it was was simulation until he wanted it to be real.
That was the danger of a place like this? That if Dahj didn't find a way to keep her wits about her, it might lull her into an accepted sense of reality. But why Kirk? Why the others? Why vampires— Dahj did eventually figure out that Captain Kirk hadn't been joking when he brought up the supernatural creatures.
If I'm not real, Dahj thought, and if this is a simulation, then what? What kind of future did Dahj have in a universe where her very existence was illegal? Was she safe here? Safer than back home? If her programming was being held in some sort of database, how long before the Romulans came for that as well?
Dahj spotted the figure of a young Kirk up ahead. She managed a small smile as she stepped forward to meet him. Maybe he wasn't the real Kirk, but being the only familar name here, he seemed like the best person to start with to find a way out of this place.
Dahj wasted no time: "The others mentioned a Ghost Line. Have you been?"
