Re: GROUP #1.
Eddie felt himself slipping into emotional shock. He knew the signs. He'd read so many medical texts. Everything felt cold and detached. If Richie was gone and Bev, and Stan, he wanted it to be over too. He felt Mercy's arms around him and knew she was speaking. He couldn't make out the words. A kiss followed. Some kind of goodbye. It was more than he deserved, he'd gotten them both killed. He watched as Mercy went out to them, maybe she wanted it to be over too.
One word managed to get through to Eddie. Chase. Was she planning to draw them away and leave him behind? No, no, no. He wasn't going to let that happen and spend the rest of his time in Dunwich, feeling the guilt and the grief. He stumbled out after her. "Mercy!" He called out, just as he saw the man with the axe getting closer to her. "Hey, hey, shitheads! I'm adding your sisters to my date with your moms and making it an orgy!" But it didn't work this time. He frowned and joined in the chase, running after them as they ran after her.
