They'd eventually made their way back out, first under the direction of their photographer and with the company of family for the typical and expected posed photography. They had added a few more fun shots into the mix, of course, but there was something to be said for allowing at least a small bit of tradition into their day. The reception itself was set up with long tables in the shape of a U in the brewery's main hall. There were no assigned seats, other than the obvious of Gideon and Embry both at the head table. In the center of the tables was an area for dancing or toasts or... whatever else, really. Gideon had gleefully knelt in front of Embry to retrieve a garter from under her skirts. With an ample volume of chiffon to hide his actions, he'd pressed kisses and even little nips of his teeth at Embry's thighs there. A brush of his tongue just beside the lace that wrapped around... Except there were two garters there, which he hadn't been expecting. One, placed higher on her leg, was decorated with a... very familiar blue fabric, and he'd have sworn that it was the very same one that had made up the dress she'd worn, that night in Philly. That earned her another nip of his teeth, just before he grabbed hold of the 'lesser' garter and dragged it down her leg. He emerged from beneath that skirting, cheeks flushed, and a chorus of cheers and whoops of playful delight around them even as he fell back in mock exhaustion. -- Though there had been some debate about which traditions they wanted to uphold, and which ones they didn’t the wearing of the garter had been something Embry still wanted to do. Maybe that wasn’t very feminist of her, and she knew that the history of it was largely questionable. However, she wasn’t easily embarrassed, and they had a different sort of game in play rather than tossing the garter and her bouquet. Instead, they were going to be hidden together for someone to find, earning them the grand prize of a couple of gift certificates, a bottle of liquor, and a few other novelty items that Gideon and Embry had selected together. Plus, there was plenty of chiffon in her skirts to make it a hilarious sort of moment rather than an uncomfortable one. Even while the guests had giggled and jeered, Embry’s cheeks had flushed at the light sensations of those kisses and nips against her legs. She might have been tempted to drag him out from beneath her dress for a kiss, but remained outwardly composed as he paused there, that nip causing a small hitch in her breath before he retrieved the lower of the two garters and emerged victorious. He made a big show of leaning back and she smirked as she retrieved a small handkerchief and leaned forward to fan him with it gently, “So many layers…” -- He leaned up slightly into the offered fanning, even adding his own to it as he waved the garter in his face. (It didn't do any good, of course, but it was fun for a show.) "I really should have practiced more before today," Gideon added, playfully. Finally rising back to his feet, he extended both hands down to Embry to help her stand, too. As she did, he easily leaned into a kiss- which earned plenty of more cheers around them. "I like the blue," Gideon whispered, just at her lips. -- She couldn’t help but laugh as he waved that scrap of lace in front of his face. It was likely no help at all, but she didn’t know that what she was doing was really helpful either. She gave another laugh at the idea that he should have practiced, though wearing a garter wasn’t something she usually did anyway. When he offered his hands, she took them gratefully, rising back to her feet. That kiss was anticipated, but the whisper made her smile a little against his lips, “Do you recognize it?” -- A little nod of confirmation, though his reply was mostly just another kiss. PDA was all but expected if not mandatory today, and Gideon had no issue in indulging. "Of course I do. I'll never forget that dress." -- There was a fine line to walk, perhaps, between what was expected of them and what went too far outside of what was considered tasteful PDA. Still, she lingered on in that kiss for a moment or two before finally pulling back just a little bit so as to not just...stand there making out with him in front of all their guests, “I had some scraps from where I got the hem repaired, and it seemed...like the perfect keepsake.” -- "You are entirely perfect, Mrs Fischer." The words came easily, every one of them meant to its fullest. "I hope you'll wear it again." Lifting their clasped hands, Gideon once more prompted Embry to spin around once. Really, he just liked to see her smile and laugh, and the twist and flow of her wedding dress was certainly an added bonus. -- If he wanted her to wear that garter again, she certainly would. It wouldn’t just get thrown into a keepsake box never to be seen again, but she...did want to make certain it was preserved and that it would last. When he lifted their hands, she laughed and gave a little spin, her grin broad as that skirt fanned around her again. Her heels tapped gently against the floor with that spin, and she smirked a little at Gideon, “Time, I think, for our guests to engage in a little scavenger hunt?” -- "Definitely." And so Gideon took a step to Embry's side, facing their assembled guests. His tone, when he addressed them, was… more formal, perhaps. His trust me, I'm a doctor voice. He explained, then, that they were going to hide this garter and a smaller bouquet of Embry's flowers. Whoever found it, then, would win the announced prize. So with everyone promising to stay there at the tables while the items were hidden, Gideon and Embry headed outside. They'd scoped out a few hiding spots while shooting their pictures, and made their way right to the chosen location. They came back inside to the reception area through a different door, just to throw off the trail. And when everyone else dashed off, Gideon just led Embry over to the bar. "Another of the special, please," he ordered, My Darlin' Clementine, the orange beer now on tap. -- They had taken that small bouquet and wrapped the garter around the stems before heading outside to go hide it. It was beginning to edge towards dark, but the weather was nice so their guests would still have a little sunlight and nice weather while they scoured for the item to win their prize. Hunting for the hidden treasure wasn’t required, but encouraged. Even if their guests weren’t all hunting, most of them did go outside to watch the progress. Embry and Gideon, however, took a moment to sit at the bar. She smiled a little at his order and confirmed, “Make that two, please.” They had requested his beer in honor of his mother, and Embry was glad that they’d done it. The beer was amazing, and it brought just a little bit of his mother’s sweet spirit to the day. The day really was going by quickly. They had already taken pictures, eaten their fill of pizza, and soon it would be time for cake and dancing, the rest of the evening unstructured and lasting just another couple of hours until the party was scheduled to dissipate, “I’m glad we decided to have everyone duke it out for a present rather than just calling out the single people.” -- Two pint glasses soon materialized in front of them there, and Gideon slid up to take a seat on the stool beside her. "I am, too," he agreed. "Not in the least because we could probably count the number of single people here on two hands." He raised his glass to Embry. "Cheers, Fischer." (Yes, he was going to be obnoxious about that.) After a sip, he looked to her with a playfully skeptic look. "Any other surprises up your sleeves today?" -- “Really, it should be fun for everyone, anyway. Everyone has a fair shot if they want to participate,” she offered with a small smile, raising her glass right along with Gideon, delighted in that little toast that he gave. She took a small sip and gave a small shrug when he asked if she had any other surprises left. He now knew about the garter. The only other thing she knew for certain was that she had a video of her walk down the aisle, but she didn’t want to show him until later, “I think one? But you can’t know what it is until we actually leave.” She took another small sip of that beer and smirked over the rim, “I already warned you I’m smashing cake in your face so I’m not counting that as one.” -- He shook his head, amused, when Embry admitted to having another surprise yet to come. "I didn't work in nearly enough surprises into the day here. Do we need a do-over?" Cake smashing into their respective faces was absolutely a given, and Gideon nodded. "Pretty as you look, Em, you're absolutely getting cake all over your face. I make no apologies for that." -- She shook her head immediately, "Nope. No do-overs. Today is perfect just as it is." The declaration left no room for doubt. She hadn't really meant to go overboard with surprises as it was. She just had seen a few good opportunities. Smiling as he promised there would be cake smashing, Embry admitted, "I'm actually looking forward to that. It's a great cake." She would actually eat some, too, of course. It was the one big tradition that she had really wanted to keep, just for the playfulness of it. -- Gideon wasn't upset about her surprises, of course, and he didn't really want a do-over of any kind. Everything they'd done was perfectly legally binding and right. "I could maybe be convinced to feed it to you, too, after the smashing. I can be very delicate, you know, when I need to be." -- Following another drink of her beer, Embry leaned across that short distance there at the bar and claimed a small kiss as she grinned, “Hmm, yes you can. What does it take to convince you from maybe to definitely?” Not that she truly needed Gideon to feed her cake, but the offer was tempting all the same. -- Leaning in, Gideon met that kiss, his free hand moving up to rest gently at her cheek. "Maybe just..." he considered for a moment, then added, "two more kisses. That'll convince me." -- She leaned just a little into that touch, a smirk crossing her loos when he said he could be convinced by two more kisses. Both were given willingly, slow and lingering there against his lips as she leaned in closer, her hand bracing just against his shoulder for support and balance. After that second kiss, she pulled back just slightly and whispered, "Convincing enough?" -- He hadn't thought she'd deny that request, of course- though she'd have had every right to do so. Today, especially, these kisses were more than willingly given. Gideon's hand moved to rest at Embry's leg, his touch gentle as he leaned into her. "Just one more," he whispered, his lips pressing to hers. -- She wondered if he felt that delicate garter right beneath his palm where his hand had rested against her leg, and if it was deliberate or coincidence that his touch landed just there. Embry wasn’t about to decline another kiss as he requested it, and leaned in close instead as his lips pressed more fully to hers. These married kisses didn’t really feel all that different than the kisses they’d been sharing the last four years, but there was a giddy knowledge that this was still their wedding day and now they had actually signed those documents in front of witnesses. It had rather immediately been sealed into an already postage covered envelope and was entrusted to her mother for safe delivery to the post office first thing the next day. Embry wanted that final certificate ready as soon as possible when they returned to start all of the legal changes. She grinned a little against his lips after a few moments more, “I think I get a double serving slice of cake.” -- Having dreamt of what happened to Jo and Alex's marriage certificate, Gideon and Embry had asked her mother to send them a video of her dropping that envelope into a mailbox. Just for their own reassurance, going into their honeymoon. And though no, he hadn't intended to put his touch right over that garter, Gideon could feel it now under his palm, and his fingers curled there just slightly. "Think we could sneak a cupcake before everyone gets back?" -- Embry was fully prepared to not worry about anything back home on their honeymoon. Someone was going to check their mail and make certain nothing was awry at the loft. They didn’t have any pets to care for. All of their patients were in the very capable hands of their colleagues. She wasn’t going to allow herself to let anything distract her from relaxing with her husband in Jamaica, and having proof that their marriage license made it into the mail would be just exactly what she needed to fully turn off that part of her mind. She felt his fingers curl against the garter and laughed a little into that kiss when he asked if they might be able to sneak a cupcake, “I really love the way you think.” With one more kiss, she hopped down off of that stool and grabbed what was left of her beer, fully intending to head to the well-laden dessert table which had been off limits thus far. -- "I am a very wise and learn-ed man," Gideon agreed with a solemn nod. "Definitely worth listening to, on occasion." Gideon watched her go, and took a glance outside, just to make sure that none of their guests seemed to be imminently near returning. "Grab a few macarons, too, Fischer," he called over to her, grinning into another sip of his beer. -- Still chuckling over his quip, Embry had made her way towards that dessert table. His call for macarons was not surprising, her smile only deepening at that finally accurate use of their joint surname. Maybe the change wasn't fully legal yet, but it was in her eyes. She took a drink of her beer as she piled up one of those little dessert plates. Embry selected four macarons from inconspicuous places in the arrangement, one of each of their chosen flavors: espresso cream, boozy rum, praline hazelnut, and chocolate raspberry. She might have taken a bite out of the boozy rum one, but she figured they would each either have two flavors or share half of each. She was not squeamish over the idea of sharing food with her husband, even taking bites of the same piece. She put a cupcake onto that plate as well, and then settled it on top of her pint glass, balancing them carefully before picking up a second cupcake for herself. She started eating that cupcake on her way back to Gideon, so she succeeded in getting a smear of buttercream frosting on her nose and a few cake crumbles on the lace of her dress, but it was worth it. -- The macarons had been a late addition to their dessert selections. They were from Sweet Nothings, which had been a contender (as such things went) for the cake part of their desserts. But more sweets, on this day, certainly wasn't a bad thing. And though Gideon absolutely could have gotten up from that stool to help Embry carry over the plates of their subterfuge dessert, watching her balance it all was amusing in its own right. (Besides which, she didn't have to start eating the cupcake on the way back- so she'd brought at least part of it on herself.) He did, at least, reach for the plate that was balanced atop her pint glass once she was close enough, and then offered a hand out to help her back up onto the stool beside him. "I'm going to be finding cake crumbles later on, aren't I?" he asked, playfully. -- Embry didn't mind that Gideon hadn't come over to help her. He was keeping an eye on their guests from the bar, and that was important, too. Besides, she was proud of herself for making it back without toppling anything, and in heels to boot. He asked if he was going to find stray bits of cake later, and Embry managed, "Pwobabwee," around a mouth full of cake. She gave an equally cakey grin and then swallowed before pointing to the macarons, "I figured we could share, or pick two each. Boozy rum is perfectly boozy." Then, she took another generous bite of her cupcake. -- Once Embry had re-situated herself, Gideon did take the other half of that boozy rum macaron that she'd recommended. He popped the whole thing into his mouth, savoring that little bite. He laughed, though, at that cake-filled response. She was ridiculous, and he loved every bit of her. Picking up an espresso macaron next, Gideon instead held it up for Embry, just barely touching her lips with it to tempt them open. -- While talking with your mouth full was generally frowned upon from a societal standpoint and not particularly romantic, Embry and Gideon had an ease with one another that allowed her to feel comfortable doing such a silly thing even on their wedding day. It got a laugh out of him. That was all she needed to know to conclude that she hadn't offended his sensibilities. After finishing that bite of cake, she willingly parted her lips to take a bite of half of that macaron, the espresso cream richly flavored and delicious. She gave an almost moan at the taste, tipping her head back a little, "So good. I'm glad we added them to the menu." -- Even as Embry tilted her head back, that delightfully sinful reaction to the macaron, Gideon leaned in closer and pressed a quick kiss just at the curve of her neck. "Sorry," he apologized playfully, not really meaning it at all, even as he sat back and ate the other half of that macaron, himself. Picking up the cupcake that she'd brought over for him, Gideon used his finger to scoop up a generous portion of the frosting, popping that into his mouth before even considering the rest of the cake itself. -- "Never sorry for a single kiss," she promised, grinning as she finished off her beer, the orange palate actually not bad with the salted caramel cupcake. She was glad they'd chosen a more universally accepted flavor for additional cake, and they wouldn't be able to take any leftovers to Jamaica with them, so they might as well enjoy their fill now. She grinned as she watched Gideon eat a scoop of that frosting, "We chose very well. I can hardly wait for the other flavor, too." They had eaten brunch and then immediately gone into wedding mode. Despite eating pizza, she thought it was perfectly acceptable that she'd saved plenty of room for dessert. -- Even if they'd been able to send leftovers on with any of their guests, there was no way it would keep for the two weeks that they were off on their honeymoon. So today was it, so far as chances at this particular set of desserts. No reason not to enjoy it to the fullest. "Are we going to get any of the other flavor, though, or is it all just going to be mashed into our faces? Cake by osmosis?" Gideon grinned at the idea. Of course, no matter how much of a mess they made of one another, there would still be cake to eat, at the end of it all. They got first dibs today. -- The beauty of choosing a local bakery for their wedding cake meant that they wouldn't mourn the loss of not getting leftover cake today. They had a standing date to have cupcakes every month on the 21st already. Embry had even informed Calliope of their plans and talked with her about what they could do for some of the months that the 21st fell when she happened to be closed. She gave a little snort when he asked if they were going to absorb cake by osmosis because that was - of course - ridiculous, "I'm just going to lick it off your cheeks if I have to, Fischer." She gave an eyebrow wiggle, a smirk on her lips even as she finished her own cupcake. -- "These cheeks?" Gideon grinned, his face alight with amusement, "Or my other ones?" But he could hardly say as much before he was laughing again, just at the ridiculousness of the whole thing. God, he loved her. -- A loud burst of laughter escaped from her, joyous and unrestrained, and she wrinkled her nose at him playfully, "Well, I wasn't planning on grabbing your ass with my cake-covered hands out of respect for your very finely tailored suit, but…" She leaned a little on the stool to get a better look at his behind there at the bar, even going so far as to bite her lower lip, then straightened up, pointing casually with a waving finger to his face, "I think these cheeks. Easier access." -- He hadn't expected that she'd actually go for such an… untoward suggestion, of course, and Gideon wasn't upset by Embry's refusal. No, he was still very much amused by the whole thing, even as she waved a finger in his face. Gideon snapped his teeth at her, playfully, his nose wrinkled up in delight. "It is a very fine suit, I will grant you that." -- She had withdrawn her finger with a laugh when he snapped his teeth at her, cheeks flushed with amusement. Another macaron was tried, this one praline hazelnut, and she nodded sagely, "Your fine ass does it some really nice favors." They were nothing if not a playful couple, and Embry didn't mind saying such things because he knew her love wasn't shallow. -- "I mean, the whole thing," he gestured to himself, "was tailored to show off my assets, entirely for your benefit, Mrs Fischer," Gideon returned, still grinning. "So you're welcome." After all, today was a day that would live on in photos and videos for the rest of their lives together- so he wanted to look his very best. He took the other half of that macaron she'd tried, then finally reached for the last- his favorite chocolate raspberry. Gideon ate his half, then held the other out for Embry. (Yes, he still had a cupcake to eat, but he liked sharing with her.) -- "Thank you," she said, doing a minor mock of bowing down to him even from her seat. She really did love the way that he looked today, especially, even though she had no complaints about how he looked day to day. She was very obviously into him all the time. She took the offered bite of macaron directly from his fingers, her lips just gently brushing the tips of his fingers as she allowed herself to be fed that bite. She gave a slow, appreciative nod, "All of them are excellent. We chose well." -- Gideon laughed a bit with her little bow, sitting up a little taller just for her benefit. He felt good today, too, which certainly only improved the whole day, really. Taking his cupcake, then, Gideon removed the wrapper, pulled the cupcake apart in half, and then sandwiched the frosting between those two cake layers. He took a bite of this new cupcake sandwich, his tongue darting out to swipe at a bit of errant frosting that had been left on his lips. "They'll probably be back soon. Anything else we need to do away from our guests' prying eyes?" -- As she watched him eat that cupcake, his tongue licking his lips, she gave a small sigh and answered, "There's plenty I want to do, but likely needs to wait for later." She didn't want to run out on their guests, besides which, as she said that there was a chorus of shrieking and laughter outside which she took to mean either someone had found the bouquet and garter, or someone had just had an embarrassing accident, "One more kiss." She leaned in, tasting the frosting on his lips as she did so, and it was the sweetest kiss yet. |
