The last day had gone by faster than Embry had originally anticipated. The last few weeks had seemed to drag on painstakingly slow, but now that the day was finally here, it was going by in the blink of an eye. She was not a superstitious sort of person, so she hadn’t actually seen a need to part from Gideon until it was necessary to get ready for the day’s proceedings. So, they had not parted ways until nearly 1:00 that afternoon, with the ceremony set for a mere three hours later and a first look to take place prior to that. While her nails had already been done for the occasion, Embry had sat patiently while her make-up and hair was done. The photographer had stayed with her for a while, until she’d slipped out of that robe and into the dress with the help of her mother. They had gone then, to check in with Gideon, and she’d been told the time that the photographer would meet her near the gazebo for the first look. It had taken a lot of restraint for Embry to not just go seek Gideon out herself right then and there. She’d tried to enjoy that time with her mother and a few of the close friends and relatives that she’d kept with her, though she was too excited to sit still for long. Finally, she had been given leave to go for that first look, and instructed to meet her parents for the drive over to the brewery afterwards. They would drive over in separate cars with Gideon arriving first, despite the fact that they would have already seen one another. As promised, the photographer had met her on that path to the gazebo, and there had been a small pause as she was instructed through a few individual shots, but anything else had faded to the background as she’d walked towards that structure, knowing that he was inside. Embry’s heart was already racing as her heels hit the entryway with soft taps, and even if she’d seen him just two hours previously, tears had still welled in her eyes just to see the set of his shoulders as he stood there, facing away from her as they’d planned. And maybe she should have shown some restraint or decorum, but despite the make-over transformation, Embry was still the same person she’d woken up as that morning. So, when she walked up behind him, instead of tapping him on the shoulder, she gave a little smirk and reached out to gently squeeze his ass, which looked amazing in his dress slacks. A small giggle escaped her, “I couldn’t help myself.” -- This day had been a long time coming, but now that it was finally here, Gideon couldn't have counted himself any luckier. He and Embry had kept a few traditions, and summarily dismissed several others, blending together old ideas and new into a day that was entirely them. He'd gotten dressed more or less on his own, though his dad and siblings had shown up at various points, just to pass along their own well-wishes and the like. Gideon didn't mind it, though. It was meditative, in a way. Going through each layer of clothing, getting each particular piece into place. Tying a necktie, twisting the cuff links, adjusting his striped socks and tightening the belt around his waist. Seams had been pressed and the suit was fit precisely to his measurements. No detail left untouched. He waited for Embry out in the gazebo, eyes trained out and into the woods beyond. The house was secluded- but, then again, this whole part of the state was much the same. No sounds of nearby highways or traffic to disturb them. So when he heard the sound of heels on the wood decking behind him, Gideon just grinned. His future wife. And then she squeezed his ass. Gideon gave a little jump, but laughed, shaking his head. "As incorrigible now as you were four years ago. Some things never change." -- If she’d thought he would truly mind her copping a feel, she wouldn’t have done it. Especially since she was rather certain that a picture had been snapped as evidence. Still, she smiled a little as he laughed, seeing that small shake of his head, “I keep life interesting.” She slipped her arms around his waist from behind, stepping closer to hug herself against his back, her cheek resting there against the back of his shoulder. The fabric of his suit jacket was soft beneath her touch, and it was perfectly fitted to him, not bunching beneath her touch, “Are you ready?” -- "That you most certainly do." He'd never deny that, or claim he didn't enjoy every bit of it. Gideon brought a hand to rest just over Embry's left, fingers idly brushing over the engagement ring she was still wearing. They'd agreed to keep on their rings for this first look, though they'd both have to give them up just before the ceremony. It wouldn't be for very long, of course, but the fact remained... (He could see, at least, that whatever dress she'd chosen didn't have sleeves- at least, not to where he could just glimpse her forearms. He really had no guesses to the style otherwise.) "To see my almost-wife? You bet your perfect ass I am." -- Her emotions were front and center, because the moment that his fingers brushed over that ring, she could feel a lump rise in her throat again. She’d have to take it off...and though she took it off often for work, when she did so she always wore the ring around her neck. This time, even if just for a little while, she’d have to relinquish it entirely for...likely around an hour. By the end of the day, she would have a second ring - her wedding band, long purchased and awaiting her. “Should I present said-ass for squeezing?” she asked playfully, though she did not, in fact, plan to turn around. Instead, she tightened her arms around him for just a moment before easing away, her left hand holding on to his where he’d touched her ring. With that touch secured, she stepped slowly around him and into view. Embry hadn’t yet seen his outfit either. She’d seen the cufflinks that he was so proud of - those physician’s symbols - but the rest had been a mystery. She’d already seen that the color of his suit was navy, but it really was tailored perfectly to his figure. Those plum accents and the faintly purple shirt were complementary and stunning, and she had to blink back tears just to truly get a good look at him, and even then her throat felt too tight to immediately say anything - even something snarky or cute. -- "More squeezing can... probably wait," he offered. "I'll be good." And then Embry had stepped around him, and Gideon... Gideon forgot everything else. His breath left him in that first instant, like it had been knocked out in a sucker punch. He brought a hand over his mouth, but the sound- the delirious, giddy, unbelieving laughter was audible all the same. Tears came, as he'd expected them to, and Gideon didn't stop them. She really did look like a damn goddess. Like something carved from perfect marble, every feature, curve, and twist of fabric designed to elicit awe in mere mortals such as himself. "Jesus fucking Christ, Em." -- Seeing his tears had predictably made hers even harder to contain, and a few had slipped down over her cheeks. Thankfully, the light make-up she wore was water-proof, and she’d been misted with what had to have been a dozen pumps of setting spray. She squeezed his hand a little, a laugh of her own escaping her when the words he managed were a liberal curse. That finally seemed to give her what she needed to speak again, and she joked, “Right? Damn, we are hot.” The dress was comprised of that delicate lace top, sweet covered buttons closing the back, and the skirt was flowing, tiered layers of chiffon with little beading and lace detail along the waist. She had fallen in love with it immediately, all but enraptured by the feminine, dreamy look that it possessed. She couldn’t take her eyes off of him, though, taking in all those little details of his suit, her lip trembling a little, “You look so goddamn handsome.” -- "We seriously are." And Gideon would include himself in that, today most especially, even if he might have normally deflected such compliments onto her alone. Today was for the both of them, without question. He reached a hand out, fingers tracing over the lace at the bottom hem of her top, a grin tugging at his lips. Gideon wasn't certain he'd ever seen a wedding dress that exposed a midriff like this, but it was... was so very her that he couldn't even begin to question it. His hand drifted down, just to the chiffon over the curve of her hip. Gideon leaned in just a bit and whispered, playfully, "It's a shame we've got a guest, or I'd ask you to make out right here and now." -- Although a few years ago, two piece dresses might have been frowned upon, the modern bride didn’t seem to be held to the same standards of modesty. Her dress was not actually revealing, even if the scarce glance of her midriff did add a sexy flare. Embry hadn’t wanted to be stuffed into a form-fitting, bejeweled, tulle encased monstrosity. That just wasn’t her style at all. Though she hadn’t found this dress in her first round of searching, it had come along several months ago and she’d only required two fittings for the entire duration - the initial fitting and then a final one for small tweaks. She couldn’t help her broad smile as he let his fingers trace along that delicate lace, his fingers brushing her skin a little in the process. She’d been so careful in hiding the dress away that it felt almost surreal that she was actually wearing it, standing with him now on their wedding day. Laughing softly at that suggestion, Embry did lean in to press a gentle kiss or two there against his lips, “Give it a few minutes and we’ll have a little more privacy.” Granted, there were still plenty of family members milling about the house so they couldn’t get too carried away in case someone decided it was necessary to come check on them, “Keeping the dress a secret was honestly one of the most difficult parts of this whole process. I wanted to show you, and I wanted to surprise you.” -- If they didn't actually have a chance to sneak away before the ceremony, it certainly wasn't the biggest problem. After all, they were getting married, and doing that was more important than momentary distractions. There would be plenty of time after they had said the I Dos. "I'm glad you waited," Gideon admitted, smiling there against her lips with those sweet, short kisses. "The surprise was totally worth it." -- Embry was completely invested in this day. The last four years had brought them to this moment, on their anniversary which they had kept even if it meant getting married on a Tuesday. She hoped their loved ones weren’t too put out by any inconvenience, and that the beer and pizza would help otherwise. She was here to marry the love of her life, and they only needed a sparse few witnesses to make that happen anyway. She leaned her forehead there against his, her hand sliding to his shoulder, thumb brushing just there against his neck at his pulse, “Good. It’s been a long time in the making.” Though she’d only found the dress a little over six months ago, they’d been engaged for nearly two and a half years. It felt beyond time that they finally got to have this moment with one another, “Best anniversary yet.” -- Her hand at his neck, just above the collar of his suit jacket. Gideon grinned, leaning just slightly into that touch. "Definitely," he agreed, with another brief kiss before he took one step back- mostly just so he didn't keep kissing her. But a hand stayed there at her hip, fingers toying through that delicate chiffon. "Is this one from those fifty open browser tabs, the day you finished your dissertation?" -- Although she didn’t know what was wrong with continuing to kiss him, Embry didn’t fuss when he took that step back. Maybe their faces should be in some of the photos that were being snapped. She was mostly ignoring that the photographer was there at all, preferring natural pictures over super posed ones anyway. She had let her hand slide there to his chest, just over his heart with her palms against his jacket. “Close,” she said with a small laugh, her smile bright, “Not this exact dress, but...that was the day I got the idea for the two piece. I looked through a lot, and tried on what seems like even more looking for the right one. I didn’t just try on two pieces, but...when I got to this one, it felt right. It was everything I wanted, and I hoped you’d love it, too.” -- "Whatever else you had to get through to find this one, it was so worth it," Gideon agreed, easily. "I love it, Em. I really, really do. I can't imagine marrying you in anything else." That, at least, was a playful remark- because they'd long since both known, and said, that they didn't much care for the little details or traditions that might otherwise be placed on them. -- Embry knew she could have shown up in a t-shirt and jeans or scrubs or a potato sack and Gideon still would have wanted to marry her. That was a thing of beauty in and of itself, of course, but she really wanted to wow him. That she’d done just that made her incredibly happy, “This is it now. Forever the wedding dress, and the wedding suit and tie.” She reached up and gently ran her fingers over that knot and down the visible length of the tie, “I’m super ready to marry you.” -- His eyes followed her touch as she traced down his chest and the pattern of the tie, a little grin tugging at his lips. Gideon really wasn't one for dressing so formally on most occasions- he lived 90% of his life in scrubs, after all- but this... this was worth it, without question. "I've been super ready to marry you for about four years now," he admitted with a playful laugh. It was... perhaps a minor embellishment, but still. "Today is a good day for it, though." -- She gave a playful wrinkle of her nose up at him when he said he’d been ready to marry her for four years, as she could not honestly say the same. Now, had he said he’d wanted to spend his life with her for four years, absolutely. Embry just hadn’t warmed up to the idea of matrimony until their engagement. She’d been head over heels in love with him for the entire time they’d been together, at least, “Today is the best day for it. It’s the one we’ve been so impatiently waiting for.” She leaned just a little bit closer and whispered, “I know we have an audience, but I’m pretty sure you should kiss me anyway.” -- "Some of us more impatiently than others," he offered, playfully. He hadn't said that particular phrase to draw any sort of division between them, or when they had come to particular conclusions or resolutions within their relationship. Gideon had been the first to admit that he was in love, he'd... been the first to propose- a few times over- before Embry had really been ready. That had been his own lesson to learn, but they'd come through it together- and now they were here, which was clearly the most important part. The conspiratorial whisper just made Gideon grin, wrinkling up his nose as he leaned in to match her. "Are you sure?" he asked, playfully. "I don't want to ruin your makeup." Not that this had been an excuse for the half dozen kisses they'd already shared. -- It was perhaps ironic that though Embry had been the last of the two of them to actually want to get married, she’d been the most impatient through this whole process. That likely spoke more of her character than anything else, but...well, she was a passionate person. She wouldn’t shy away from any of her flaws. They both knew the story that had led them both to this moment, and though there had mostly been highs, the lows had been brief and heartrending. She gave a small laugh at the idea that he was going to mess up her makeup, and a small roll of her eyes, “This stuff is caked onto my face for the whole damn day. No tears during the ceremony or kisses right now are going to phase it. Not much anyway.” Maybe she would need to touch up her lipstick and make certain there was no transfer to him before they left, but...that was easily enough done. As it was, the makeup that she wore was light and meant to look mostly natural...just there to emphasize what she already had. -- He laughed right along with her- even if he had messed up her makeup, well, they had time enough to fix it. "Well, in that case." Gideon leaned in, his hands slipping around to her lower back, against her skin there. His lips met hers, slow and steady, the kiss lingering on easily. After a moment more, his touch moved down over her ass- just because he could. -- She grinned a little into the kiss, though that faded out as she stepped in closer, drawn in by his touch as his hands moved lower over her backside. Embry stepped up flush to his chest, her arms lifting to circle his shoulders as she pulled herself closer to him. There was perhaps one more snap of a camera shutter, but then the shuffling of feet against the wooden floor and the soft vibration of someone walking away. She smirked a little into the kiss, a giggle there against his lips, “That’s one way to get a moment alone.” -- It was all Gideon could do not to burst into laughter when he heard the vague sounds of their photographer making an exit. "I mean, you're welcome," he offered, the words against her lips all the same. But with his hands low as they were- and for as flowy as her dress seemed to be- it seemed only natural to bend his own knees and lift Embry up more properly into his arms. -- She made a soft sound between appreciation and surprise when he bent at the knees a little and picked her up off the ground, his grip still supporting beneath her hips. She didn’t mind that in the least, but also didn’t want him to have to bear the full brunt of her weight for longer than necessary. So, she thought maybe it would be helpful if she helped support her own weight just a little. That skirt was flowy enough that she was able to shift a little and easily slip her legs around his hips without breaking that kiss, though she was careful of the heels she was wearing. Those swaths of chiffon still flowed down to ensure that she was well covered, at least. -- Though he hadn't entirely expected her to wrap her legs around his waist, Gideon was far from complaining. If nothing else, she felt much more supported that way, which meant that they could both, well, concentrate on the important part of kissing. He could feel the gentle brush of the fabric that cascaded down around her hips, proving that they'd made the right choice in getting this close, here and now. They weren't doing anything that broke any of their own traditions, and that's what mattered, really. "Sure you don't want to just grab Dahlia and do this whole thing right here and now?" The question, though facetious, still whispered against her lips. -- It wasn’t as though anyone would believe they had been chaste these last four years even if they were to stumble upon them in such a position. As it was, this was relatively mild for them, all told. Embry was hardly going to apologize for wanting to kiss her fiance before he became her husband. She gave a small, breathless laugh there against his lips when he offered to just grab Dahlia and have her perform the ceremony right then and there, “I think I have my vows mostly memorized,” she pressed another kiss to his lips, a soft sigh following, “But we did pay for a really nice venue,” another slow kiss, “And there will be pizza and beer.” -- If anyone- even Embry's parents- had thought the two of them were chaste, Gideon might very well have passed out from laughing. As if he could live with the beautiful sexy genius goddess that was Embry Nadine Soon-To-Be-Fischer and not want her with every damn fiber of his being. "Mine aren't memorized," Gideon admitted, a little flush to his cheeks- though he wasn't at all surprised to hear that hers were. He had note cards just inside his suit jacket, actually, but... "You're right, though. It's definitely too late to get our deposit back..." Words eased into kisses. -- She didn’t mind that his vows weren’t memorized. She did have reference notes on a few cards, and the full version of the vows written in her own script, but Embry had...wanted to look at him as much as possible while saying those vows. She had rehearsed many presentations and speeches during her time in school, and recently since achieving that doctorate. “I just read mine a thousand times making sure they came even close to expressing the depth of how damn much I love you. They’re adequate,” she gave a small smirk as she kissed him again, though she usually relied on action more than words. Not that she didn’t say how she felt about him frequently, but...the words weren’t usually as flowery, perhaps. There was no doubt that they were going to go through with the whole ceremony anyway, but Embry gave into those kisses for a long few moments, “It’s going to be the best day...and I know we don’t have too long before we need to head to the ceremony, but after that traveling interlude I plan to be by your side the rest of the day.” Maybe that was a given, but she still wanted to say it because maybe that would make that brief separation easier to bear. -- He'd had his vows written for some time, though they'd been revised and refined a bit in the last few weeks, just to... to be sure he got it all right. He only had one chance at it, after all. So while he might have been able to do a fair bit of it from memory, Gideon wouldn't dare try without those cards in hand- he'd end up a blubbering mess. A hand had slipped up just under the back of her top, the other staying at her ass- because, well, because he could. Gideon pressed his lips to Embry's jawline, slow and easy. "For the rest of the next two weeks, really..." -- He’d told her his vows had been written a long time ago, though she could assume that if he’d needed to make any changes, he’d looked at them prior to today. Neither of them were going into this carelessly. Today signified a huge step for the both of them, even if not a lot was actually going to change. Goosebumps raised on her arms when she felt his fingers there against her spine, just there beneath her top. There was, he would feel, a bra band there. The top of the dress had a nude colored lining that matched well to her skin tone, but there was really no danger in...an accidental wardrobe malfunction. She gave a soft, pleased sigh, tilting her head a little into his kisses as he pressed his lips to her jawline, her fingers slipping into his hair there at the nape of his neck, “I’m so glad we budgeted all that vacation time. Just you and me and Jamaica...” -- Gideon didn't actually intend on undressing her until much later that night, but... well, it was a midriff dress. He was only so good at resisting her on a normal day. A faint sound pressed against her skin, but Gideon didn't seek to mark her- not before the ceremony, no, tempting as it would have been on any other day. His kisses trailed to the curve of her neck, then shifted to the other side to do just the same. "You, me, Jamaica... Sunshine, infinity pool, fruity drinks with umbrellas in them..." -- Embry’s own will to resist was wearing thin, but she knew that she needed to mind her manners. After all, this was their wedding day and they were not...entirely incapable of controlling their own behaviors. A smile and a hum of happiness accompanied those kisses pressed to her neck, “Mhm...and beaches, bikinis, breakfast in bed...the most important b’s. And...God, I can’t think of anything else…” -- Oh, it was... it was just too easy. "Besos," Gideon offered, one of the few simple Spanish words he knew, "my bride, butts, a brunette," more kisses, as he spoke, because of course, "breasts, barefoot, blow jobs..." -- Embry actually had thought of most of what he said, but she’d been rather desperately trying to not end up disrobed before the wedding ceremony so she’d refrained from saying them. He didn’t seem to have the same hesitations, those kisses driving her to distraction, especially as he seemed to linger over one particularly sensitive spot on her neck at that last, “We are supposed to be behaving.” Even still, she shifted just enough with him that she could claim another kiss against his lips, lingering and heady, just before she - very reluctantly - eased her legs there away from his hips until the toes of her shoes touched the floor again, even as she was still leaning into that kiss, whispering against his lips, “Your list gets priority. We can start there later.” -- Though Gideon, perhaps, hadn't gotten the behaving memo, he didn't protest when Embry shifted down and away from him. This was her wedding day, and he wouldn't dare upset her. His hands had moved away from her skin, instead sliding into his own trousers pockets, just to be safe. "They both have considerable merit. We can compromise." -- When he completely removed his touch from her, instead sliding his hands into his pockets, she raised a brow. It hadn’t been her intention to completely sever that connection, but she retreated in kind, looking down to make certain her skirt wasn’t terribly ruffled, “Breakfast in bed tomorrow before we go to the airport sounds lovely.” The rest of her b’s would have to wait until they were actually in Jamaica. -- "You still look damn perfect, Em, don't worry," Gideon assured her with a little smile. "Every inch the gorgeous, flawless goddess I know you to be." They were flying first class to Jamaica. It was an extra expense, yes, but it wasn't as if you honeymooned all the time. This was supposed to be an experience. "Coffee in bed, for sure," he offered, playfully. "We might get fancy food in first class, after all." -- In that moment, Embry felt a little untethered. She hadn't been fully prepared for the sudden, willful loss of that touch, not having otherwise been caught. Checking the flow of her skirt was just something to occupy her own hands without clasping them or crossing her arms, "You are the leading expert on such observations, so I trust that you're correct." She did, then, twist her hands a little in a small layer of the chiffon, keeping the sensation of that fabric beneath her fingers. When he pointed out that they might get served a nice meal in first class she smiled a little brighter, "True. We will get the most out of our money there, for sure." Any reasonable perk that came included, Embry was certain to take advantage of it. -- "I am a standalone in my field of Embry observation," Gideon offered with a small smile. But being that as it was, it then seemed obvious that… "Which is how I know that something is wrong." He exhaled, slowly, almost warily. "I'm not going to mess up your wedding day, Em. Talk to me. Let me fix it." -- He was right, of course, that something was just a little bit skewed. It was a minor thing in the grand scheme of it all, and she felt silly for being so sensitive at all. Before anything else, she amended, "Our…our wedding day." Unless there was some piece of critical information that she was missing, today was not just for her benefit. She refrained, somehow, from running her hands over her face or through her hair, though her natural inclination was to fidget, "It's stupid," she warned him, cheeks flushed, but finally actually looked back up at him again, "When I pulled back, you moved away, and put your hands in your pockets. It just seemed…sudden. I didn't know...if I upset you or…" she blew out a hard breath and clarified, "I realize that I was the one that said we needed to behave. I just didn't mean…that what we were doing was wrong or too much or unwanted." -- "Our wedding day," he confirmed, easily. "Though you're by far the more important and beautiful half of that equation." Though he hadn't meant any kind of offense with those actions, Gideon could see, in retrospect, how it had been perceived as such. He sighed, but pulled his hands from his pockets, showing them to Embry and then holding them out for her to take. "I didn't think it was unwanted, per se. I just… thought it might be better if I removed temptation." -- "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and you're very biased," she teased, a small smile on her lips. She reached out willingly to take his hands when they were offered to her, already feeling some of that uncomfortable tightness ease from her chest. However, she stepped closer pulling his arms around her and tucking herself into his chest, settling her own arms around him, "It's really fine, Gideon. You know me and touch...I just want us both on the same page." -- "Of course I am," he grinned. "It's one of my favorite things about myself." She took his hands, and Gideon easily slipped them around Embry's waist, holding her close as she stepped in. Gideon pressed a careful kiss just against her hair, not wanting to disturb her perfectly-coiffed look. "We're absolutely on the same page. Without question." -- She couldn't help but laugh when he said his own bias was one of the things he liked most about himself, "And you call me incorrigible." Giving a small nod against his chest, but careful not to mess up her hair or smear makeup on his jacket, Embry just let herself enjoy that embrace for a moment, "All better, then." It held the weight of a promise, and she looked up to press just a gentle peck of a kiss to his lips, "Let's go get married." |
