Winter was always a complicated beast for Alexis, she picked up extra hours - as many as Mehdi would let her get away with - to fill the gap that the January schedule left. Her class load was in half, which meant Alexis-brain had always been convinced that meant she should/could/would end up working herself to the bone to earn as much money as possible. The checks were nice. But all they really accomplished was letting her save more for later, or break even in case of an emergency. When college was behind her, it’d be better. She’d have no problem paying her cell phone bill, or covering an important car part for her shitty honda. One of these days. But that day wasn’t today. Today, she’d woken up early to help out at the church, and then had attended her two morning classes, and fit in some afternoon DoorDash before ending up at K Auto for her shift. Now, hours later, the shop was closed and it was dark outside. Mehdi might’ve been in the back office, or home, or … somewhere, she wasn’t sure. He wasn’t the type of boss to hover. Even when his employee was on a creeper, under a Toyota, falling asleep. Go away, go away-- The wrench hitting the floor with a loud noise is what brought Alexis to - and it brought her to in the most painful of ways, as her head came up abruptly and hit a part under the car. “FUCK-- Ow.” She rolled out from under the toyota, hand on her forehead, frown on her face. She glanced at her watch, squinting. “Fuck,” again. This time because it was after ten, the latest she could get away staying at the shop. Going home without her work being completed and with a giant knot forming on her forehead was just the topper to a lovely fucking day. Alexis sat up slowly, brushing her greasy hands on her coveralls. She whispered to no one in particular - or maybe herself. “Fuck you, Adam. Fuck you, Cabeswater. Fuck you, Dunhaven. I have shit to do.” |
