I am a successful fisherwoman!

Well, I didn't actually catch anything, but I was able to eventually cast without assistance or guidance and I didn't fall into the water once. The latter was, quite frankly, a large worry. It just seemed like something I might do. Feel free to celebrate with me, Dunhaven, during this moment of triumph.

Unrelated, but we will be sending out information to everyone who volunteered to read to the kids on Monday. I couldn't believe how many people signed up and it really does make this teacher's heart happy to see how many are willing to set aside their time to help out, especially when it comes to helping out kids. You are all absolute gems and I can't wait to get to meet those of you I don't already know to thank you in person.

Have a great rest of your Saturdays, friends. ☺️

Did you have fun, though?

You know, I did! I think I would like it more in the summer when it's all warm, but it was fun to do something different.

Okay, what was the bright side? Was there a good view? Was there alcohol? Mermaids?

So many mermaids. You should have been there, Ang.

Little Mermaid was always my favorite Disney movie growing up, so.

It was a very nice view of the river, too.

I bet it was great. Were there any waves?

Not really, no. I'd have probably actually fallen in if there had been.

Sometimes falling isn't the worst thing.

Ariel always had pretty good luck.

BUT she was a 16 year old who really had no business not actually listening to her father, so there's that.

I don't think either of our dads would have been pretty thrilled if I'd had an Ariel-like rebellion streak at 16. Or if I'd used forks to brush my hair.

Oscar? He's very nice! He let me come early today and was pretty patient, since I was super clueless.

You did great. My first time fishing, took a hook right through the thumb. So you've already got one up on me.

Oh, ouch. I can't say I'm super sad that I missed out on that part of the experience! And I'm hoping I didn't just jinx myself on next time.

I'd say I was little and inexperienced, but we didn't get any of that at the orphanage. So it was adult mistakes, sadly.

You've clearly grown from those adult mistakes, though! So that's very good.

Is that a side effect of teaching kindergarten or just something you're born with?

I think it might be something I was born with, but teaching kindergarten and making colorful bulletin boards have only refined it.
