Why was she the worst? Sorcha felt terrible - not a feeling she was very used to, to be honest, but one she was getting more and more acclimated to the last few months. Everything sucked. Had she made a mistake, breaking up with Cash? Would the unsung feelings for Evan never come to fruition had she not broken up with him? She had tolerated the feeling second best for so long, she would have gotten used to it, right? Was it really better now, being so alone? Everyone she knew since she moved here was a friend of Cash's first, and they all had left her. Except Zora, who she was incredibly grateful for. She might have just gone back to Scotland, but she didn't want to admit to her parents that this, too, was another failed venture. Still, being here with Cash now? Without their friends? With no family? Sorcha had never felt so alone in her whole life. But she'd fucked it up again, in the end. She knew she should have been more careful, but she felt like she needed to say so many things and, as usual, they jumped out her fingertips onto the phone in the way they fell out her mouth with no filter. Letters on letters spilling in all the wrong orders to say things she didn't mean, to put things more harshly than she intended, to turn the whole conversation around and mess up any chance she had of re-connecting, of finding her friend again. It was late, now, dark. On a pure whim she'd left the safe city of Dunhaven for DC, intending to go look at that architecture place that Sofia had been in her post. She never made it there, it was too late when she left, later because she got lost, and instead ended up in a Denny's to eat some food and drown her sorrows in hot chocolate. Walking back to her car now, she checked her phone to see if Cash ever said anything again, and was unsurprised to find that no one had texted her. A light popped ahead, not the one by her car and she breathed a sigh of relief - but the reason of the popping was a couple of kids around her age standing there, throwing things at the light. Tensing up, she could immediately feel the danger. It was that next-level instinct women had for sensing a bad situation and she could smell it all over them - mixed in with the strong scent of cheap vodka. Keeping her eyes straight on her car, she kept moving. "No, no, Snowflake, please, you gotta keep - there's nothing there sweet girl, why are you stopping?" Lux sighed, pushing a few loose strands of her blonde hair out of her face, leaning forward once more to try and calm her panicked horse. She had never seen her like this, but there was a first for everything! "We're all good my sweet, let's ride!" Part of her sensed the danger, knew something was close by, but if they left they'd be fine. Nothing could diminish that optimistic light. What the fuck was that? Sorcha blinked, vaguely recognizing the face but the rest of it made no sense at all, and she stopped walking briefly to ponder it when the first of the five boys spoke. "Hey, hey blonde - did you see that shit? That was fucking AWESOME right?" A taller boy, a little skinny but not frail-looking called to her, pointing at the light. Sorcha ignored it and kept walking, trying to swerve as far away from them as possible while still getting to her driver side door. "Aw, don't be such a bitch. Why don't you come hang out and loosen up a bit." Still blatantly ignoring them, she pulled the keys out from her bag, lacing them between her fingers in case she needed to throw a punch. "Yeah mate it was totally awesome!" She said, finding her voice and flashing a smile. It caught them off guard and didn't bother unlocking her car with the beeper. If anything, the car alarm going off would send them running, right? A growl, deep in the woods. Lux turned her head to where the sound came from, the smile not yet fading from her face. "Oh it's just a rabbit I'm sure, Snow, c'mon. We should get home soon, and I'll get you two whole apples, not just one. Maybe even a sugar cube." She tried bargaining with her horse, not a tactic that was usually well received, but at least she thought Snow thought it was funny, anyway. Stupid girl, why wasn't she running away? Like Sorcha was here, and now, and who was that she was seeing? No time to wonder - Sorcha knew they were drunk and thrown off guard by her words. She thought she might actually make it to her car, but one of them was close enough to take a few steps forward. "See, British bitch does want to party!" He called back to them, his words a little stronger - a little less drunk. "Scottish, actually, but don' worry now everyone makes that mistake." She corrected automatically, unable to stop herself. Goddamnit, Sorch, can't you ever keep your mouth shut? Cursing herself, she turned just as he turned on her, ready to throw a fistful of keys into his face when Just like that, a whole pack of sabrewulves was on her and her horse. Lux had to something - anything, to save them both. bright, colorful lights appeared out of nowhere and trapped him to the ground. Flashes of rainbow-colored light, erupting from literally FROM her, Literally rooted him there. "A REAL LIFE FUCKIN' WITCH!' The first who had spoken to her called out, and someone she hadn't even noticed before said words she thought would definitely be sealing her fate. "GET HER!" scattering all the wolves except for one Why on Earth they'd want to get her was beyond Sorcha's thought processes right now - sell her to the government nah put her on youtube were being mumbled as they literally converged on her, and she was at her door and the alarm was blaring and they didn't care at all. What was happening? What the fuck was actually happening? One of them grabbed her arm, yanking her backward. She dropped her keys and readied up to let out the biggest scream of her life but instead, more lights. when more lights appeared This time, the lights surrounded her like a bubble, An orb, wrapped itself around her, the sabrewulf unable to reach her through its translucent shell, a sizzling sort of sound and the cry of a hurt wulf muffled by the bubble itself literally, like a giant soap bubble that apparently did something to the dude holding her arm - burned him, maybe, because he screamed and let go and the rest of the drunk dudes took off running. Not caring enough to stay and figure it out, Sorcha grabbed her keys, got in the car, and took off as fast as possible, sirens still blaring. Three blocks later she managed to turn the car alarm off and another five blocks from that she pulled over, hands shaking, the shock wearing off. She fumbled with her phone, and immediately dialed Cash - before hanging up almost as quickly, remember that's not who she could call on anymore. Maybe if she hadn't texted him today she could, but definitely not now. "Don't worry Lux, there's nothing wrong with being a mage. You're a light mage." She was safe, in her head, now that she could focus on what it was she was seeing. A vision or memory or something, was she losing her mind? Had almost being attacked broken her brain forever? A boy with soft brown hair, big and wearing armor comforted her back at home, safe. "They're going to exile me Garen, I just know it". Lux. Garen. The bubble and the rooting light and - Sorcha's eyes went wide as she recognized what she was seeing, what it was all from. Hadn't someone once told her - people in Dunhaven had strange dreams sometimes, didn't they? But this wasn't a dream, this was a whole real thing that had just happened and she was pretty sure she just did actual magic, like Lux. Like Luxanna Crownguard from League of fucking Legends. Not knowing what else to do and not having the mental capacity to deal with any of this right now, Sorcha turned her car back on. "C'mon Sorcha, you got this. You can drive home. You're alright, yeah? Brilliant, you know, everything is perfect. Alright now, here we go." In her head, she could practically feel the optimism from Lux oozing out in her own, equally optimistic voice. Blinker on, foot on the gas, merge. Focusing as hard as she could, Sorcha drove back to the dorm but didn't make it out of her car before breaking. |
