It's more what goes through her head. [...] She didn't want to give him up, she just wanted to give him his best chance. She was abandoned as a baby herself. Tossed around foster and group homes. But she was still a kid herself, so how could she have possibly done right by him? Even so, I can still feel the way her heart broke when she let him go.
And then I come out of her head and remember that the choice I'm making isn't motivated by the same feelings. And while I will never stop advocating for the legitimacy and validity of that choice, I still feel guilty for what feels like the selfishness of it.
