NAME: Edgar Humphrey Bones. Edgar is for his maternal grandfather (Edgar Rosier), and Humphrey is for his paternal grandfather (Humphrey Bones). Naming firstborn sons in this fashion is a long-standing Bones tradition.
ALIAS(ES): Ed, Eddie, Bonesie
DOB/AGE: 15 May 1943, 38
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual.
BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood; in terms of assets, money and real estate, the Bones family is top tier, in league with the Blacks, Malfoys and Lestranges. While followers of pureblood tradition who firmly believed in preserving wizarding culture and society for the benefit of the magical world as a whole, the Boneses have never run in purist circles and do not discriminate based on blood status.
PROFESSION: Auror, Deputy Head of the Auror Department; Edgar began preparing for his career as an auror in his last year of Hogwarts. His father was more interested in his eldest son becoming a politician due to his apathetic nature and way with words, but Edgar craved something considerably less full of shite, where he might actually have an opportunity to make a difference. Always an impressive wizard where wandwork was concerned, Edgar was given excellent references by his professors and by the headmaster (in being dedicated to leading by example, as Head Boy during his final year) and passed the entrance qualifier with flying colours. He was a top trainee during his initial years, and has been consistently rising through the ranks of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement in ability and reputation.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
WAND: Ash, 11 1/4", the core being a hair from the mane of a kelpie. Edgar was on holiday in France with his family when he received his Hogwarts letter and near demanded out of excitement to purchase a wand immediately. His parents relented, thus he doesn't have a traditional Ollivanders wand. (ash - "knowledge & health" | kelpie - "excellent for wandwork")
PATRONUS: Golden retriever
HOUSE & YEAR: Gryffindor 1954-61 POSITIONS/EXTRACURRICULARS: Quidditch chaser (56-61), Prefect (58-60) & Head Boy (60-61) OWLS/NEWTS:
RESIDENCE: As the family's heir, Ed was entitled to his family's ancestral home in Westbury, Wiltshire (Bones Estate) upon his marriage. Wanting to distance himself somewhat from tradition and expectation, Edgar chose instead to purchase his own property in Dover, Kent. He and Calypso named it 'Green-Wall Cottage'.
PERSONALITY: Edgar is and always has been outgoing--he established confidence in himself at a very young age. He is insightful, and known for providing good advice to those who ask for it (though rarely does he practice what he preaches, ahem). Edgar is intelligent, a good leader (patient, responsible, reasonable), and a quick thinker. He values honesty, amity and fair play, as well as courage and determination. He does not break down easily. His success in life has made him rather cocky, and he tends to come across as thinking more of himself than he actually does. There is a certain false sense of self-entitlement, based on his ancestry, that Edgar subconsciously continues to prize, and his overwhelming belief in his own invincibility will often see him leap blindly into situations without thinking them through. He's talkative with a strange sense of humour, and he enjoys the world of muggle swears that his best mate has introduced him to, employing them ('fuck' in particular) enthusiastically whenever so inclined.
Edgar reads people well and has a tendency to trust his gut feeling on things. More often than not it's led him in the right direction, and is certainly reflected well in his personnel file, though it's also certainly contributed to his aforementioned cockiness. Edgar also has a tendency to push himself past his limitations--even though he recognizes them, having been raised on a vein of believing that greatness is determined by accomplishment and that the Boneses are a family of greatness--Edgar always feels the need to be constantly challenging himself, and doing more, more, MORE!
An apt multi-tasker, however, Ed is always happiest when he's got a lot on his plate. He's not a worrier or an over-planner, but enjoys having a lot of things to be preoccupied with, aka, he's a massive overachiever. Not a coaster, however, Ed does work hard. No doubt about it: He wants to be the best at everything. His agility and ability to think on his feet fostered his talents on the quidditch pitch during his school days, and have continued to be an asset in his strong suit as an Auror: offensive duelling. His charm and grace (raised to be a proper pureblood gentleman) combined with his sense of humour and tactical mind help him to slide easily, naturally, and almost unintentionally, into leadership roles. In a nutshell: Edgar is a likable, personable guy who enjoys challenges, and who is occasionally obnoxious re: success/competition.
SKILLS: patient, quick-witted, strong offensive duellist, keeps cool under pressure, conscious of his own limitations (though occasionally, in the heat of the moment, he's idiotic/very brave depending on your perspective), good judge of character, something of a perfectionist (or, more or less, an over-committed nosy parker), endearingly obnoxious, blows (self-described) epic smoke rings, great with animals (particularly dogs), great with kids, loyal to a fault, tosses his golden bangs just that way
More than anything else, Edgar's skills as a duellist, as well as his natural leadership abilities, see him fit well in the Order's ranks. He is a take-charge man who is willing to take necessary risks, and who would never ask someone to do something he wasn't willing to do himself first. Confident and driven in his wandwork, a quick-thinker, and a loyal friend/ally, Ed is absolutely someone to feel comfortable having beside you in a fight.
FAMILY:
Wife: Calypso Eloise Bones (née Gamp)

POLITICS: The Boneses, as a family, have been considered borderline bloodtraitors within the pureblood community for many years. Hubbub died down somewhat when Joseph Bones married a Rosier; despite sympathies for Muggles and Muggleborns, the family was still marrying with blood and ancestry in mind. Joseph and Annalise have donated to and participated in the right charities/philanthropic endeavours, and, for the most part, they kept their political leanings to themselves. Though mostly middle-of-the-road, Edgar's parents have sided predominantly with the Justinian party in the past decade or so, clashing with their staunchly Walpurgis-leaning extended family at times when the topic of conversation could not be ignored. Edgar himself sides Justinian, and is loud (and a bit self-righteous) about telling anyone who asks. Edgar's attitude toward (those he considers to be) the xenophobic is well-known, and it is the one area of his life (in conversation) where patience eludes him. He will speak with anger, and his own brand of intolerance, and of black and white with little room for grey areas.
Edgar is a member of the Order of the Phoenix and has been since October of 1977 (brought in on the recommendation of his then mentor, Alastor Moody). He has always strongly believed that all wizards and witches deserve equality in the world, and, raised in a home of tolerance and respect, he was taught from a very young age (however quietly) that blood purity is irrelevant to the capabilities of a witch or wizard, and that being a 'Bones' does not make him any better than anyone else. Though uneasy at the get-go in joining a vigilante organization, being in the Order gives Edgar the ability to think and act a little more freely than his position as an Auror will allow. It has definitely gotten to a point where he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty when necessary, and to (however perhaps hypocritically) fight fire with fire. He began his career eager to fight bad guys and bring the dark wizards to their knees; at this point his frustration with the disruption of his life, and the endless death and destruction, has him wanting nothing more than to see it end. For good.
