WHO: Demetria Dartwell and Lightning Farron WHAT: Demetria has her suspicions about that Mognet post WHERE: Demetria’s classroom WHEN: Backdated to August 6th, 4:30pm WARNINGS: Probably no higher than PG. It’s just a discussion.
It was common enough for Demetria to ask a student to stop by after class for one reason or another. Sometimes it was because they were in trouble and she was assigning detention. There were plenty of other times where it wasn’t due to a student being in trouble. If they were showing extra interest in a particular part of the lesson or if they were debating something, Demetria would sometimes invite the student to meet her after class if they wanted to continue the discussion so that the planned lesson could continue as scheduled. Sometimes it was to offer extra help when a student wasn’t doing well but was trying. Once in a while, it was to do something nice without showing overt favouritism.
There were any number of reasons for Demetria to ask a student to stop by after class. Today was because she had some suspicions about Lightning Farron’s recent Mognet activity. They were only suspicions. She had no proof. The thought just nagged at her, and she couldn’t let it go. Theoretically, she had the technical skill to hack into Mognet and learn the identities of every person who’d posted. The reality was that it would be extremely time consuming – much too time consuming for a post that didn’t actually break any laws or contain death threats. It did violate Garden code. The imagery was hostile and in poor taste, but ultimately not worth all the time and effort. Instead, she’d simply posted her own thoughts on the matter and left it at that.
If Commander Leonhart wasn’t going to give her orders to look into it, there were more productive uses of her time. Such as having a talk with one of her students and encouraging her to express her opinions in a more professional manner in the future. She was just in the process of marking tests when Lightning walked into the classroom. Putting them aside, Demetria stood to greet her.
“Lightning. Thank you for coming. Please close the door behind you. This won’t take long and I want to clarify that you are not in any trouble. I did want to talk to you about something, though.”
