The fishing village had long been abandoned. Its people had moved to the mainland and taken up jobs in hospitality and accounting. Its shacks and boats had been devoured by the elements and the passage of time. He had a new life, a family and a career, but he returned to the causeway every day at high tide, his heart tangled in the nets of the young novice with the differently colored eyes. Every day, he waited by the shore, clinging to the memory of their time beneath the waves. It was twenty five years before he saw her again.
