Drabble Day 2020: A Highly Infectious Load of Awesome Results!
HELLO. Like every year, the time has come to announce the Drabble Day results and, uhm, apparently we get applications for hosting now??
[Don't make this weirder than it already is, Amy.]
Sorry! Sorry sorry. I am just so excited!
[Yeah, er, neat. As we said, there has been a (single, solitary, unopposed) very competitive application for this year's hosting duties, so without further ado, we shall leave this in the capable hands of Amy Santiago!]
[Kinda regretting this already. Ames! Nobody else applied!]
[We're trying, Rosa. Amy, please. Could you just... run your scenario?]
Yes! Ahem. Welcome to this very special Drabble Day 2020 results announcement! Sorry I was 27 seconds late, I had to run through some outfits real quick...
[Amy, you're an absolute stunner and please don't take this the wrong way, but no one will care what you wear. We're all sat here in PJ tops and nothing else.]
It's important to rise to the occasion!
[Title of your sex tape.]
Ugh, I meant sartorially speaking! Even Rosa put in an effort!
[Ok, but could we just... do the thing?]
We can NOW.
[...]
DRABBLERS! Welcome! I am here to present the results for Drabble Day 2020 - Quarantine Edition, and on behalf of the mods, Rosa and myself and all other interested parties ([there are none]), SHUT UP, ahem, I mean, let me just say the turnout for this year's drabbling event has been phenomenal and you have been absolutely amazing!
The totals produced this year consisted of 229 drabbles produced by 13 participants and spread across a metric fuckton of fandoms... wait, is that really what I'm meant to say? Ugh, unbelievable, so the mods inform me that they have had their usual problems with basic arithmetic, so depending on how you count it, the number of fandoms is apparently "somewhere around 80 with some crossovers and shit", and... really? This is the kind of professional output you guys feel comfortable with?
[Yup.]
[Well, you can always double-check the numbers if you're that desperate.]
ANYWAY. I am informed the mysteriously uncountable number of fandoms is higher than anything ever, so that's impressive! Fandoms represented are as follows:
Alles was zählt, Agents of Shield, Altered Carbon, As the World Turns, Bandom (My Chemical Romance and Panic! At the Disco), Band Sinister, Black Sails, Bomb Girls, Bohemian Rhapsody RPF, Broken Earth, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Call My By Your Name, Columbo, Community, Death Comes to Pemberley/Pride & Prejudice, Derry Girls, Doctor Who, Druck, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Firefly, Flambards, Frankenstein, The Game of Kings, The Good Fight/The Good Wife, Good Omens, The Good Place, Greek Mythology, Hamilton (The Musical), Harlots, Harry Potter, Hawaii 5-0, Hercules, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Hunger Games, In Other Lands, Jessica Jones, Kate’s Writer Group (Original), La Casa de Papel, The Last of the Mohicans, Law and Order: SVU, Les Miserables, Little Women, Lovesick, The Magicians, Marvellous Mrs Maisel, Merlin, Misfits, Miss Fisher, Mulan, Murder She Wrote, My So-Called Life, The Neverending Story, Outlander, Parade’s End, Park & Recreation, Please Like Me, Proper English, The Raven Cycle, Red, White & Royal Blue, Schitt’s Creek (& Pitt’s River), Shameless, Sherlock, The Shoebox Project, Silent Witness, Sliders, Spanish Cave (original poetry), Stargate Atlantis, Star Wars, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Temeraire, Twelve Monkeys, Umbrella Academy, Upstairs/Downstairs, The Walking Dead, The Witcher, Wolf Hall – Bring Up the Bodies, X-Files, You’re the Worst
Now, for my favourite part - individual achievements!
[There's no grading or pass/fail, Amy. This is about participating in and sharing the joy of creativity and fandom sparkles in these uncertain times.]
[Kinda feels like you're missing the point. Why don't you just get to the announcements.]
Ooooh, yes. This is the part I worked for! What? Oh, sigh, fine:
Disclaimer: Due to the regrettable constraints of time and space, the mods have not yet self-immersed in ALL of the fandoms represented at this challenge, so they insisted that I include this disclaimer stating you are not allowed to mock them if they got a representative image wrong. Clearly the sensible thing to do would have been to just give me an extra 72 hours so I could binge ALL OF THE FANDOMS for reasons of complete gif accuracy, but I was informed that I was being, once again, insane. You are allowed to object to accidentally misrepresentative gifs but the moderators make no guarantees that they'll actually get fixed.
Here are the individual achievements for this year, which I have made it a point to honour with a set of representative (see disclaimer) images each:
The highest output, at 57 drabbles, was produced by aldiara, who I frankly think cheated with doing yet another endless series type thing. But there you go, hope you enjoyed the Firefly pandemic and random wingfic crack:
Tied in second place, in a fantastic development, are amyriadfthings and amo_amas_amat with 35 drabbles each, making us laugh and gasp and bounce with Inga's Pitt's-River-within-Schitt's-Creek meta crack and Sharon/Rayanne feels, and Anna's Temeraire rarepair win and Derry Girls f/f adorableness, as well as a wide variety of other contributions.
Sláinte, Anna!
Temeraire art by: Vorkosigans
Prost, Inga!
At 29 drabbles, third place this year goes to lilithilien, who you've got to thank for this whole mad shindig in the first place and who juggled modding, writing, chatting with co-mod, reading, and not sleeping in her usual flawless way:
In fourth place, we have spaghettitoes with 26 drabbles, entertaining us with some casual greats of classic crime-solving, plus assorted angel/demon, timey-wimey, sciency goodness:
Next up, there's giorgiakerr with 16 drabbles, joining us for some wonderful X-Files feels, assorted character pieces and frankly scorching hot smut:
Hot on her heels is winterlover with 14 drabbles, bringing all the bandom feels, Doctor Who crack, and AWZ nostalgia:
Then we have placebo_effect with 6 drabbles, rejoining us this year with some flawless Parks & Rec and Brooklyn 99 lulz and Johnlock feels:
Followed closely by ktbob with 5 drabbles, injecting us with LuRe nostalgia and Red, White & Royal Blue fun:
(RW&RB art by: Venessa Kelley)
In 3 drabbles, notoriouslyuniq contributed Community and Ron/Draco crack:
momogermany managed to sneak in from her extreme work schedule to throw in a double drabble with the added insanity of incorporating 21 prompts:
antiteb joined us for 1 drabble, making us all curious about this show:
...and finally ktbob's Midkid amused us all vastly with 1 drabble about her mum's boozy writers' group:
Congratulations, everybody! Thank you so much for being part of the madness this year and participating with such...
HUMOUR
INSPIRATION
MUTUAL SUPPORT
COMMITMENT TO THE THEME
CRACK
SEXYTIEMS
TIRELESS ENERGY
AND PIZAZZ!
HUZZAH! All that remains to be said is...
["Amy, you use too many gifs."]
Shut your filthy mouths or I will end you. All that remains to be said is, you have been spectacular, thank you so much for joining us, and we hope to see you all next time! And now...
