Olivia let her fists fall to her sides. Breathe. She rolled her shoulders back and watched the clock on the wall tick away the seconds. Breathe. Her arms felt like dead weight, and it burned when she breathed. Her lungs felt too small in her chest, her heart too big. She clenched her fists in the gloves and raised them to her face.

The room was silent and empty except for Olivia’s breathing and the sound of her bare shin hitting leather, the slight creak of the heavy bag swinging in its iron fixture, and the ghosts she couldn’t banish.
