Drabble Day will be here in just a few short (okay, 17) hours!!! We hope that you're excited - we are!! Have you got all your supplies stockpiled and excuses ready so you write ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT? Excellent!!!
To help get you in the mood for this, the SIXTH (SEMI-)ANNUAL DRABBLE EXTRAVAGANZA, we've enlisted the help of a few interns to walk us through the rules. Please say hello to April and Andy...
We really appreciate you giving us a hand. Why don't you both tell us a little about yourselves?
Um, okay, that's great... So we'll leave it in your capable hands...
Maybe it's best if someone else explains the rules, just until you get the hang of it. Ben, could you maybe help us out?
The rules of Drabble Day are quite simple. For 20 hours... wait...20 hours? Really?
Okay, the mods are telling me that's correct. For 20 hours, starting at 11pm GMT / midnight CET / 6pm EST / 10am Saturday NZ, the mods will post the prompts. Are they not going to sleep? At all? Sorry, sorry, I'll stick to the script. Participants will have one hour to write and post a drabble, or multiple drabbles if you so choose, inspired by that prompt.
This year, there will be TWO prompts posted each hour.
You may write one drabble with one prompt. You may write one drabble with both prompts. You may write one drabble with each prompt. You may write a double-drabble on one or both prompts.
Just remember that a drabble is exactly 100 words.* And not to toot my own horn, but I am an accountant and I will know.
*Titles do NOT count toward the 100 words.
In honour of our sadly neglected journals, this year's Drabble Day theme is
Remember those little tags you could add to your posts when words didn't quite do it? We've picked 40 favourites to kickstart your drabbling. Hope you're feeling chipper or maybe examinate!
Remember, you can write in any fandom you choose - TV, books, movies, cartoons... you can even write those characters that talk in your head while you're waiting on the bus.
Later, after the mods have enjoyed an appropriate period of blissful oblivion, the results will be tallied and prizes awarded to the person(s) who writes the most drabbles within the allotted time period. (For legal purposes, I have been told to clarify that the prizes will be in the form of "intangible acclaim and praise." So, um, yeah.)
However, immediately following Drabble Day, there will be a EuroVisionEskiViewing - is that really a thing? Okay, I'll just go with it - the EuroVisionEskiViewing will begin at 8pm GMT for anyone who chooses to join in.
All right, I think that covers everything. Before we go, does anybody have any words of advice?
We'll see you back here in a few hours. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!
