Who: Minako and Hikaru Kurosawa.
When: Two weeks ago. (Week Two. Late Saturday night / early Sunday morning.)
Where: The Kurosawa family estate.
What: Minako catches Hikaru as he returns home after killing Vittoria.
Rating & Warnings: Probably R for language and mentions of violence.
It had been a late night. Minako had been having a lot of those recently, ever since she’d started working on this new deal. Her opposite was a boss from a smaller local gang, someone who had ties to the syndicate through real estate deals and development plans; he’d grown a little too big for his britches in recent months, and it was Minako’s job to put him back in his place without alienating his much-needed business. It was a tricky balance, and it involved a lot of late meetings at syndicate-owned burlesques and lounges—thus Minako not returning home until well past midnight. Her parents were already asleep upstairs, but she wasn’t sure where all of her brothers were, and she didn’t want to disturb any of them in case they’d already gone to sleep. She showered quickly, finding the cling of smoke and perfume distasteful, before donning a pale cotton yukata and retreating downstairs to the living room—not the elegant, Western-style one used to receive guests, but the smaller, more traditional one used only by their family. Minako sank to her knees on one of the tatami mats, planning to just relax for a few brief moments before going back upstairs to start preparing for tomorrow’s negotiations. She cleared her mind, trying for a mental and physical stillness that had been lost to her all day. The faint scent of sandalwood wafting from a corner of the room helped, though she was shaken out of her meditation by the sound of the front door opening and closing quietly. Minako rose and padded silently towards the front hall, wondering which of her brothers was returning so late and hoping to perhaps surprise him. “Nii-san,” she called out cheerfully, though she stopped completely in her tracks as she entered the front hall to the sight of Hikaru, bloody and half-dressed. Bloody. The sight of one of her brothers returning home bloodied and bruised was not so unusual in itself. But the fact that it was Hikaru, who was perhaps the least inclined to violence out of all of her beloved brothers, abruptly and deeply worried Minako. “What happened?” she asked, immediately scanning him from head to toe to see if any of that blood was his. He seemed to have grazes to his back, mostly minor, but there was a nasty long cut to his face that was still bleeding sluggishly. It looked suspiciously like a knife wound… or—maybe a claw wound. “Who did this to you? I’ll kill them.” The words were deadly serious, but rather incongruous with Minako’s currently harmless, domestic appearance. |
