Character Biography - Nicolette Drake
Name: Nicolette Meridian Drake
Nickname(s): Matriarch; Milady; Mistress
Age: 337
Race: Vampire
Profession: Matriarch of the Drake Coven; Regent of Sanguis.
Current Residence: Sanguis: The Drake Manor.
Family Members: Adrianna Drake [mother; deceased]; Johannes Drake [father; deceased]; Christyna Drake [elder sister; deceased]; Sebastien "Bastien" Drake [elder brother; family sire]; Haemon Drake [husband]; Eldest daughter [deceased]; Middle daughter (Emilie); and the twins (Lourdes & Lucien).
Affiliation: The Drake Coven
Physical Description: Nicolette is tall and statuesque with a thin body that makes her look fragile, but the Matriarch of the most powerful vampire coven is no such flower. She is the embodiment of a true noble vampire, always wearing glamorous gowns and things that show she is clearly not one of the peasants beneath her. She wears dresses that could sometimes be called dated and a great many have corseted tops, but they seem to make the woman look even more menacing. Her skin is of a flawless and pale, peachy-pink though a great many of people attribute that color to her make-up more than to her natural complexion. Her lips are almost always painted the brightest of red, as if to cover up the fact that she dines on blood entirely. The Matriarch's eyes are of a bluish-green color, but she always lines the heavily with eyeliner that pulls the tips into a cat's eye look. Her head is crowned by long blue-black hair which she wears in what could be called dated styles, but she finds them to be eloquent and beautiful.
Distinguishing Marks: A small mole, considered to be a beauty mark, rests upon her left cheek bone, but that is the only thing near a flaw that can be see on this woman's skin. There are other marks, but they are hidden well beneath her dresses.
Personality: Nicolette possesses an air of mystery about her. She moves and speaks as if she is no one to be threatened by, but it is only after she has drawn you in with this demure nature that she is able to pounce. The Matriarch hides her dark underbelly with an air of sweetness that lures all to her like flies to a spider's web. This black widow lays her webbing slowly and with precision for it is proximity that allows her to weave her web of lies about her intended victims. She settles on the target she wants and waits for them to come to her, because there is no use in wasting energies if one can help it. The Matriarch is a quiet and soft-spoken hostess, most of the time, as she knows that aggression will not get her what she wants in a world full of progress. She tends to let others speak and slowly interrogates them without her subject actually knowing she is doing so. For the most part, she is patient when seeking information, but beneath this quiet and passive demeanor, Nicolette Drake has, perhaps, the deadliest of rages one could imagine. This anger is only restrained by her husband and their closest advisers though shards of it will break free and slash out at those who manage to push her too far. The Matriarch is selfish and ego-ridden, finding joy in the pain and agony of others once she has lured them into a false feeling of security.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual; Married to Haemon, though the traditional vampire way is for the male to take the wife's surname rather than the husband's.
Magical Abilities: ILLUSIONS—The Matriarch of the Drake Coven was gifted with the ability to cast illusions upon her enemies and those around her. She can psionically cause other people to see, hear, touch, smell, and even taste things that do not actually exist. This ability will only work within a specific diameter from the woman. The closer you are to Nicolette, the harder it is to resist her illusionary skills. Those not affected fall within two categories: those she does not want affected and those that cannot be affected, the latter being those within her immediate family as well as those who have psychic abilities that can combat her own. She is able to influence up to a ball room's worth of people at once, but the more people she is handling, the harder it is for her to maintain her influence upon each of them. Stronger subjects will be more likely to break free of the illusion or notice an inconsistency within it (say something changing color, shape, or placement).
Weaknesses: Nicolette is a vampire and thus she has all the weaknesses of a vampire—holy items and water as well as a bit of a problem with sunlight sapping her strength and abilities. Though she denies it, the Matriarch does have certain weaknesses in her actual powers themselves. She cannot effectively cast illusions upon psychics which means the more powerful the psychic she is up against, the less of a chance she has to complete the illusion. Also, her radius is not as large as she would have most people believe. It is somewhere in the range of one hundred feet though she would have everyone else believe it is one hundred yards. Nicolette's children and close blood-kin are not effected by her power unless they allow her to do so. She does not understand this weakness, but accepts it as they are her blood and she should protect them rather than trick them.
Weaponry / Training: Though she is considered vampire royalty, Nicolette has no formal training with weapons. She does not feel a need to use them considering she can weave such startling illusions. She has, however, learned the ways of Aikido and Tai Chi Chuan as more of a way to pass the time than as ways to defend herself. She seems to enjoy the fluid movements and the calming sensation she gets from practicing her martial arts.
Other Skills: None notable.
Personal History: Drake. It is a name that drives fear deeply into the hearts of those who would even think of crossing them. If you ever happened to listen to the old tales of vampires, it is the name of Drake that has always found itself woven into those tales, a name which was merely whispered and never truly said out loud. Many claim that the Drakes are not the original descendants of the vampire rulers of Sanguis and that their family was nothing before the Immortal War. It was their greed and their ability to survive that allowed the Drake Coven to come out on top as the ruling class of vampires.
There was no winner to the Immortal War, only a country that was ripped apart by hatred and death. A century of war that was waged so long ago that no one who lives now even knows what it was like to be a part of it. Instead, there is only the Immortal Archive of Sanguis where the histories have been either re-written or suppressed by the Drake Coven. No one knows for sure which parchments and books have been kept free of edits from the hands of Drake Matriarchs, but the Coven itself simply denies these claims as rumors and reminds the population that they had been there all along. Honestly, no one can remember a time when there wasn't a Drake controlling Sanguis.
Nicolette Meridian Drake was not born in a time of war. No, the Lady Nicolette was born in a time of peace and prosperity. A time when her parents ruled the great city of Sanguis. She was one of three children, though not the eldest. Originally not meant to be Matriarch after her own mother's death, she was able to take on the mantle only after the death of her eldest sister, Christyna. It was a time of sadness for the Drakes and a mother who had groomed her eldest daughter to be Matriarch since birth. It is unknown whether or not Nicolette had anything to do with Christyna's death, but one this is for sure—she had everything to gain by the elder woman's destruction.
The Matriarch's mother, Adrianna, put Nicolette through a whirlwind of training and initiation so that she could catch up to the lessons that her sister had already been through. Nicolette was a fast learner and achieved what she could even faster than her sister. It seemed as if she was born to lead—it ran through her veins, shone in her skin, captured her mind, and seemed to be the very essence of her soul. On top of that, Nicolette was blessed with such wonderful magical skill that she could use it to motivate and bend others to her will. Adrianna was to have the "perfect" successor.
But no one expected Adrianna and her husband to die in the way they did, slaughtered by someone or something while on route between Silver City and Sanguis. There were no survivors in the royal caravan and, while Nicolette did weep openly, most did not find her so convincing. Again, she had too much to gain by the death of this woman. Gunslingers investigated, but none were able to ascertain who killed the noble vampires or why.
Two centuries passed. Again, nobles died, but again it was tainted by the cries of murder. The Blackthorne family laid the blame squarely on the heads of the family Drake, but Matriarch Nicolette didn't hesitate to dismiss the charges as foolishness. No one put it past Nicolette Drake to have instigated something so sinister considering the bodies that have piled up in her wake. The Matriarch denied all knowledge of the so-called "murder" of the powerful head of the demon family and yet Blackthorne children insisted her sorrow was nothing more than a rouse. Still, the Gunslingers investigated her and her family's involvement. No evidence turned up to support the accusations, other than intuition by some of the more experienced Gunslingers, so the family Drake was absolved of the crime.
Since the death of her eldest daughter, Nicolette has withdrawn her family back within the safety of her city, demanding that all demons who reside in Sanguis declare their allegiance to the family Drake or seek asylum somewhere else. She has also posed a challenge to the Order members who reside within Sanguis—join her side or leave her city and the mortals they protect. She is seeking reinforcements within the supernatural beings that reside in her city and the vampire families of old. Who knows if she will find them or not?

Character Example:
It was raining the day she heard the news, pouring down as if even the angels were shedding tears. No one could say for sure exactly what had happened or who had done such a thing, but all they knew for sure was that both the matriarch and her husband were dead. They had been ripped to pieces and not even their combined power could stop whoever or whatever had been able to get so close. The guards had all been taken down so quickly that there had been no time to react to the threat, their bodies burned and torn apart just like everyone else. Even Haemon's own father had not been spared the horrible death that had been doled out to them all.
For all this, Nicolette wept openly. She flung herself at the Gunslinger who had brought her the information. Only one had survived and he had done so by crawling on his broken hands and knees until he reached one of the villages that lined the long roadway between Sanguis and Silver City. He had died there, but not before word had been sent through the Order that the noble family was dead. The woman beat her fists against the man and screamed, "You lie!" The Gunslinger looked stunned that the soon-to-be-matriarch Nicolette would attack him in such a way. He did not resist and did not fight her. Instead, he looked to her companions for help.
Eventually, someone did pull her away from the man in order to save him from Nicolette's fury. Her brother held her as she shook and cried. He had decided, on a whim, not to go on the trip to Silve rCity because of some things that needed attending to in Sanguis. Part of him was entirely thankful that his own needs had outweighed whatever it was that the matriarch and her husband had thought were necessary to attend to in the mortal city. There was also a part of him that wished he could have helped his family in their time of need. He wished he could have been there in order to help his father fight them off, but that was a very bad wish. Had he been there, he would have also fallen prey to their murderer. "Are you sure..? That it was their caravan, I mean?" It was very bad question. Of course they would be sure. Gunslingers were always sure when it came to matters of nobles.
The man nodded and Nicolette, who had looked up at the question, screamed. The scream was loud enough to make ears ring and to call out those who were not already there. She fought against her brother and tried, again, to lash out at the man who had come in bringing such blasphemy. "YOU LIE!" She began to wrap him up in illusion, wishing him to die in some horrible way, but she was snatched back and shook.
"Nicolette!" Her brother was shaking her, trying to bring sense into a senseless mind. "You stop this, Nicolette!" If she was to be the new Matriarch of the Drake Coven then she needed to get a hold of herself. The Gunslinger watched in bewilderment as the new Matriarch was handled like some small child. His eyes settled upon the man who was watching the scene unfold, "You are dismissed, Gunslinger!" They should not be watched at a time like this.
She was shaken once more for good measure and the young vampiress watched her last remaining sibling with doe eyes. She did not want to admit that her beloved mother and father were now dead. She did not want to hear these things, even if it did mean that she was now in power. No one would bend to a matriarch who was so young. No one would listen to her commands and do as they were told. "Brother..?"
The elder vampire, now technically the eldest of his own bloodline, just released his hold upon his sister as he took a deep breath, "Find your husband. He should be with you now, not I."
Nicolette's hands had been resting against her brother's chest and she had just now realized that he had removed his hands from her arms. She took a step backward, her fingers the last thing to leave his touch, and turned to head back inside the palace. She needed to find her beloved and her child. They needed to hear the news.
