Character Biography - Josalynn Darklove Name: Josalynn Rose Darklove Nickname(s): Joz; Gunslinger; 'Slinger; Marshal; Marshal Darklove. Age: 28 Race: Powered Mortal Profession: Gunslinger Marshal Current Residence: Silver City Family Members: Robert Darklove [father; deceased]; Mina Darklove [mother; deceased]; The Fraternal Twin; The Middle Brother; The Youngest Brother. Affiliation: The Royal Order of Gunslingers — Darklove Family
Physical Description: Josalynn is a woman of average height with dark hair and hazel eyes. Her long hair is normally kept pulled back in braids or ponytails so that it won't hinder her daily activities though she's definitely not against "letting her hair down" at times. Her complexion is clear though she doesn't follow much of a routine to keep it that way so it may blemish from time to time if she isn't careful. At times, Josalynn looks as if she's somehow "gothic," but she doesn't always try to dress that way. It just seems to have come out as her natural style so she's not really trying to fight it. The Gunslinger tries to wear jeans and tees to look as if she is normal even though she is far from it. She wears her boots religiously, because they're extremely good to use when pinning someone to the ground. Distinguishing Marks: A smiley face tattoo on the middle finger of her right hand; An infinity symbol tattooed upon her right forearm; "R.I.P." tattooed upon her left forearm; A large cross tattoo on her back that unsuccessfully hides several scars from her very first Order mission. Her back actually has at least three bullet wounds, but they have faded over the years. Her left shoulder sports the worst wound out of the three. Personality: Josalynn is a very strong-willed individual who is not particularly satisfied with what has been thrust upon her life. Her parents were murdered in cold blood and, though she would rather be looking for their murderers, she understands her duty to law and the population and does not waiver from it. At times, Joz seems to feel everything in extremes—she absolutely adores or passionately loathes them. To the few people she actually shows love or friendship for, she's very caring, protective, and generous but, somehow, also very jealous of their relationships with other people. Maybe she's just insecure that those friendships will bloom bigger and better than the one she has with them? She can be absolutely focused, ignoring the rest of the world when she fixates on something for a long length of time. Above all, she believes in the law and will uphold it when the time comes though she can look the other way when someone is willing to do something for her in return. Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Magical Abilities: PSYCHOMETRY—Joz has the ability to obtain knowledge about an object, or about a person connected with it, through physical contact with the object. She has little to no experience with working on her psychometry and shows no real interest in trying to pursue anyone who might be able to help her. Joz sees it more as a weakness than a strength. She is registered with the government as a legal psychometric and her visions can be used as evidence in court as long as they are thoroughly documented. Weaknesses: Josalynn is not completely effective with her psychometry. She doesn't understand it and she hasn't figured out how to use it correctly. The power will wash over her like a tidal wave and leave her wondering exactly what she's supposed to do with the information that she receives. There is a bit of numbness in some of the fingers on her left hand from an injury received in the line of duty. Because of this, Joz is not as efficient at firing weapons left-handed. Weaponry / Training: As a Gunslinger, Joz has been trained from a very young age in the law and the use of her firearm. She is an excellent markswoman though she prefers only to shoot her sidearm with her right hand because of numbness in her left. The woman carries a semi-automatic pistol as her sidearm (Ruger P89; 9mm) and the standard Blessed Silver-Steel rounds. Other Skills: With a house full of boys, Josalynn has learned how to cook rather well. She's not Julia Child, but she can make fairly edible and good tasting food.
Personal History: Josalynn Darklove was born into a family ruled by the law. Her parents, Robert and Mina, were loving and attentive, but they lived for keeping law and order. They were the Darkloves and they were responsible fore more than just being a family. They were responsible for the well-being of all the families of Inora. Joz was brought up to believe this value and, though her mother did not want her only daughter to be drawn into this life, eventually their little girl was set down the path that would make her who she is today. As Josalynn grew, she was enveloped in the tenants of law and order. Order members ate the law, breathed law, and even covered their bodies with the laws of the lands. Some could call the Gunslingers a cult of law, but Josalynn just calls them her family.
At the age of eighteen, Josalynn was sworn in as a member of the Order and given her first assignment. This assignment was not meant to be a difficult task, but eventually did end up being a fight for her life. Information was misinterpreted or left out at headquarters. This lack of information allowed for the young woman and the other members of her operation to be drawn into a firefight. The group escaped, but only after they had taken a severe beating. Joz was on the receiving end of several gunshot wounds, one of which has left a permanent numbness in her left hand due to nerve damage. The crisis ended, but was never forgotten.
Sometime after Joz's twenty-sixth birthday, her parents were ambushed while on a routine patrol of Silver City. Both were killed and the children of the Darklove family were left to pick up the pieces of their family and a void to fill on the Marshals' Council. It was her who was eventually chosen to take their father's place, but in reality none of them wished to do so because doing so would mean admitting that their parents really were dead. The siblings eventually pulled things together and are trying to live up to the name that their parents left them with.
Since chaos that has enveloped the country, Josalynn has returned to her patrols of Silver City in order to help keep control of the unrest that is starting to brew as the blood feud between the vampires and the demons is reignited once more. She dreads the idea of this war, but also knows that this is the time that the Darklove family was made for. They, and every other Order family, are there to show that no one is above the law. Not even the noble houses. She's determined to find more information on the murders that have taken place.
Other Character Notes: Always open to new friends, allies, and enemies! Player-Base: Pauley Perrette
Character Example: The plans had been simple and thoroughly thought out. Marshal Abel and his squad of deputies were going to storm an illegal drug manufacturer that had set up shop in the industrial center. It was found that this particular manufacturer was the source of a drug that had been circulating through Elysium lately. The powder, nicknamed "Devil's Dust," hit demons and vampires so hard that there were four known fatalities from it just within the supernatural community, but no one was sure just how many there truly were. The rumor was that any mortal who had taken it had died within five minutes of getting the high. There was another rumor, this one circling among the deputies, that Marshal Abel's daughter had died from Devil's Dust and that was why he had personally taken it upon himself to locate the source of this menace. Jon Able loved his kids and so this was a personal vendetta to pay back those who had taken away one of his own.
It was unknown just what type of race they were going to be dealing with and so the Order issued the deputies the supernatural-killing bullets that had come to be their signature weapon. Not every single marshal or deputy carried these bullets, but most everyone thought they did. It helped keep law and order in the cities if they were feared more than they really should be. Josalynn could feel her hand shaking a bit as she loaded her gun with the clip carrying the blessed silver ammo. She didn't necessarily want to kill anyone, but they had to be prepared for anything and everything that went their way. She checked her body armor for the fourth time and one of the deputies beside her nudged her with his elbow.
"Cool it, Darklove." She turned to look at the man, probably not more than a year older than she, and gave him a half-hearted smile. Everyone knew who she was, but she didn't know any of them. Perhaps it was just because she was JD's sister? The deputy beside her smiled as well and nodded his head, "I know you're nervous, but this is routine. We'll get in, get out, and it'll be over before you even realized it started."
Jozzie nodded and tried to take a deep breath. She was nervous because she'd only been doing most of this as exercise. The real stuf was different. You'd think that being raised in a family of lawmen would make it easier, but it didn't. It only made her more nervous. "Right, routine," she repeated as the guy that spoke to her turned to open the door of the van they had been riding in.
The group was let out of their transportation about two blocks from their target, but this was so that they wouldn't tip off anyone who might be watching for lawmen. They were to make their way through the industrial area until they reached their first mark and then head into the area in two groups. One would set themselves up at the rear and the other at the front until the command to go was issued. Standard practice. Somebody covers the front and somebody covers the back. No problem. Routine.
But the event itself was not as routine as it sounded. The first issue that came up was the matter of radio contact. They couldn't get completely coordinated as to when they were all in place and so those in back stormed in before those in front were completely in position. That itself would've been okay, but there was something else. The building was correct and their layouts perfect, but everything inside was not. Tables that were supposed to be layden with Devil's Dust were, instead, upturned like barricades. Josalynn only heard a single shout of "Get down!" before the bullets started flying. It seemed that someone had tipped the bad guys off that there was to be a raid.
Joz watched in horror as several of her companions were gunned down by automatic weaponry. Blood filled the air and sprayed across her body as she jumped for cover. She was pinned down behind some rather thick steel barrels that had been left behind during the clean-out by their baddies. Beside her sat the same deputy that had told her to calm down. He wasn't shaking as bad as she, but she could tell that he was a little shook up. Blood covered part of his right sleeve, but he wasn't paying so much attention to that as he was the bullets that were flying past them.
"You okay?" She leaned in closer to keep her limbs away from anything that might be bouncing her way and focused on her new partner here.
The young man beside her simply took stock of himself and his situation before nodding, "Fine."
Bullets hit the barrels again and Joz jumped, not used to that kind of sound. She had seen all kinds of television shows where these kinds of things happened, but she never expected that she would get caught up in a hail of gunfire so quickly. Eventually, she remembered that she did have a gun and checked over herself and her ammo as she tried to calm her mind.
"Hands up!"
Joz could hear the Marshal call out as the gunfire began to cease. She hadn't even let loose a single shot yet and already the fight was over? Hopefully, she wouldn't get reprimanded for not aiding her team. She peeked her head around the barrels just in time to see Marshal Abel moving forward, his gun drawn as two men stood with their hands up. Other deputies came out of the woodwork and covered the Marshal and Josalynn began to stand with her weapon drawn. She was being careful, coving those who were giving cover as she moved of to her left. The guy who had ducked in beside her was up and trying to help with cover too.
Her eyes were so focused on the Marshal and the two men that he had in his sights that she never noticed the shadows that were creeping about the farthest wall of the building. Marshal Abel was trying to corral the thugs and get them in cuffs. The thugs were slow and resisting and Joz thought nothing of it until gunfire started from somewhere behind her. Bullets whizzed through the air and she could hear them as they impacted steel and flesh. The guy who had taken shelter with her was hit again, but this time it wasn't something that he could bounce back from.
Marshal Abel had enough time to turn and look before one of the thugs he was after retrieved a pistol from the band of his pants and put a slug in his head. That was when the entire thing dissolved into nothing, but complete chaos. Before, there had been some order to it. The Marshal had been yelling commands through the walkies, but now there was no one to tell the young deputies where to go or what to do. Josalynn tried to duck behind something in order to get cover, but found herself on the receiving end of a bullet.
The young woman couldn't think, couldn't breathe. All she felt was the feeling of being impacted with the force of a mack truck and then there was blood everywhere. She just knew that she was surrounded by the blood of others. It had to be the blood of someone else. It just couldn't be hers. No way, no how. She tried to pick herself up off of the floor as someone began to shout into the walkies. A call had gone out for back-up as the shooting began, but now one of the more experienced deputies was screaming onto the channel that they needed help now. The Marshal was down, probably dead, and there were very few gunslingers left standing to fight. He was also shouting for everyone to get their asses out.
Josalynn wanted to help her fallen comrades, but she couldn't. There was a burning feeling in her left side and the warm, wet feelng of blood on her back. She didn't know if she could actually make it out on her own, let alone dragging someone behind her. She turned to fire shots back in order to cover her escape, but apparently hadn't cleared the way well enough. She was trying to get through a doorway when she felt another punch to the back. Another bullet ripped through her shoulder and forced her to the ground as she was already off balance. Joz moaned and tried to pick herself back up, but found herself being forced to the ground by a rather large and rather heavy foot.
"Stupid little girl," A rather annoyed voice spoke quietly as Josalynn screamed out in pain from the pressure to her wounded self. He aimed his gun downward at her and popped another bullet into her at close range, this one was close to her spine, but just missed it.
Joz could see her whole life flashing before her eyes. She wanted to tell her family that she loved them and to tell JD that she was sorry for picking on him at home so much. Somewhere in the middle of her pain, she could hear the man mumbling something. It seemed as if he was saying that somebody would pay him big for the Darklove daughter, but she wasn't sure if that was really what he had said or not. All she knew was that she could hear the clicking noise of him cocking his gun once more before she passed out from the pain and bloodloss.
She woke up in the hospital days later, under the vigil of one of her brothers. Whatever entity had been watching over her, be it Justice or some other god, had saved her that night. Just before her assailant had finished her off, the backup had arrived. He received a silver bullet to the brain for his troubles. Out of a group of fifteen men and women sent to raid the factory, six survived. Marshal Abel was one of the confirmed dead, along with a handful of people that Josalynn had known her entire life.
