To sleep, perchance to dream...
Who: Penny & Tony
When: Day 11, very early morning... (back-dated)
Where: Tony's Room
It was late, probably floating between midnight and one. Sleeping with Zane so early in the morning had screwed up Penny's whole day, and she had been up and asleep at weird hours- at least for her. Having meant to see Tony before this, she just hoped he wasn't asleep as she went to his room and knocked on the door lightly. If he was, Penny would leave him alone, but she wanted to make sure he was okay; and, more importantly, that he hadn't been kicked out or something. Wanting to put him in a good mood, she cupped her breasts and made a kissy face for him to see through the peep hole of his door.
Tony groaned when he heard the knock on the door. He'd been restless and too hot and wishing the drummers would stop pounding on his head. In boxers and an undershirt, he'd been melting on his bed, all the sheets crushed to the bottom of the mattress. The comforter had been flung to the floor hours before. Who the hell was in the hall? And why were they bothering him? He pushed the little button on his expensive watch which made the face glow and stared at the time. "Penny," he whispered, sliding from the bed and walking to the door. He looked through the peep hole and let his forehead rest against the surface as a smile crept in. Well, maybe that wasn't so bad. She tended to make him laugh or maybe they could talk about things that would give his mind enough peace to let him sleep. Though still bruised and swollen, that side of his face wasn't as bad as it had been. Tony unlocked his door and opened it just enough that only the uninjured side of his face was visible. "I don't recall asking for the Avon lady..." he said, sounding more or less like his usual self - the 'social Tony'.
"Please, the Avon ladies wish they were me," Penny smirked, leaning against the door so her eye lined up with his. She studied him for a moment. He seemed awake, if a bit antisocial at the moment (which she was basing off of his not opening the door the whole way), and she reached forward and stroked her finger down his forehead briefly. "I didn't wake you, did I? Are you feeling okay?"
He sighed, stepped back and opened the door all the way. "You didn't wake me. At all. I'm not... sleeping very well." His hand gripped the door knob tightly as he nodded his head to the room behind him. "You want in? I can't promise I'll be the best company, but..." Tony shrugged. "You seem to wander the halls a lot. You should probably see someone about that..."
"Who'm I gonna see?" she asked with a smile, stepping in and looking him over. He seemed okay; his face was definitely bruised, but not too badly. Penny reached up and rested her hand on his non-injured cheek, smiling sadly at him. "I came to check up on you. I meant to earlier, but my day's been rather screwy. Do you want to sleep?"
Tony shrugged again. "Doesn't it get boring?" Of course, they'd met in a hall, so maybe it wasn't too bad. He didn't flinch when she touched his face again. He hadn't flinched when her finger had touched his forehead at the door. Knowing she intended no harm helped, but the touching bit was nice. "Thanks, luv. Sorry your day's been..." His voice trailed off as he processed what she was asking. Did he want to sleep? Did he want to talk? Did he want to, possibly, become lost in sensation with Penny and her body that he didn't have to think about anything else? You nearly raped someone, Anthony. Get a grip - "I don't know," he whispered, his eyes on hers.
He seemed worse than he was letting on, his indecision and his sleeplessness. She wondered if he'd slept at all the night before. "Come on, Tonybear, let's lie down," Penny whispered. If he could use a sort of nickname on her, she could use one on him; and considering the situation, she wanted it to be soft and fluffy. She reached down and took his hand, shutting the door behind her and leading him back towards his bed. "You need to sleep."
Did she have any clue how difficult it was to think? It was like being stuck in a fog, with no apparent sign of it lifting any time soon. Focusing on something else, he raised one eyebrow. "'Tonybear'? He didn't pull his hand away from hers. In fact, he let her lead him back to the bed. "Sleep, yeah." A small smirk formed. "The sandman could come and poor the contents of the beach at Bristol into my eyes, and I don't know if I'd sleep..."
"Yes, Tonybear. You like it," Penny teased gently, lying down and patting the spot next to her. "I'll see if I can assist him." She settled in and rested against the headboard, kicking her shoes off and resting it against the bed.
He sighed "Alright, I'll live with 'Tonybear'." He sat down beside her and leaned his back against the headboard. She could have chosen a worse name... "You're going to help a man with an hour glass pour sand in my eyes? They raise them oddly in Las Vegas..."
"Well, Las Vegas is in the desert," she smirked, grabbing his hand again and running her thumb across the back of his palm. "I'm just going to help you try and relax. But you should sleep."
"And how, exactly, are you going to help me sleep? Now that I know you and the sandman are going to load me up with dirt, why would I fall asleep?" He was just joking around, of course. Sleep would be welcome. Sleep would be fine. If only his brain would stop spinning its wheels...
"Aren't boys supposed to enjoy getting dirty? Besides, I've got a few tricks up my sleeve," Penny teased lightly, moving closer to him and wrapping her arms around him soothingly. She moved one hand so it was running through her hair again and rested her head by his, just wanting him to relax and to get his brain to shut down. His body would take him to sleep from there. "Half of what I say is meaningless," Penny sang softly, rubbing her hand on his side and stroking his hair in gentle unison. "But I say it just to reach you, Julia..."
She was playing with her hair and holding him with her free arm and that was soothing enough. Tony closed his eyes and listened to the sound of her voice. Was she singing something? He wasn't sure and didn't recognize it. Then she called him 'Julia', or so it seemed. His eyes opened again and he turned his head. "Oi. I can handle the name 'Tonybear', but don't call me 'Julia', okay? That's just shite, luv."
Penny giggled, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "You've never heard the song Julia? It's by the Beatles, that's where my mom pulled my middle name from." Yes, Penny Julia Lane; she was certainly a Beatles prodigy. "Although if you'd rather I sing something else..."
"Oh, right," he said. "I knew that. The White Album isn't one of my favorites..." Tony laughed softly. "You're... Penny Julia Lane? Seriously? Were your parents musicians or just really high when they named you?" He wriggled his arm behind her back, so he could hold her. "Can I have another kiss, please, luv?" He didn't mind her singing, but the kiss was nice, too.
"Just my mother, my dad wasn't in the picture. But I'm pretty sure she must've been high a thousand times," Penny added on a snort, rolling her eyes. She sent him an amused look when he said he wanted a kiss. But she didn't mind. She pressed her lips gently to his cheek again, and then to his lips. "Are you always so polite when asking for a kiss?" she asked teasingly.
"Oh," he said. Open mouth, insert foot, chew vigorously... "Sorry..." Then he received two kisses and swallowed at her question. "No, not always... Did I get two because I've been good or something...?" Tony didn't think he'd been 'good' at all, even though, apparently, the attack on Megan hadn't really been his fault.
She shook her head and laughed, running her fingers through his hair. "Don't be sorry, you didn't know. How could you? Unless you're a mind reader," Penny laughed, resting her chin on his shoulder and looking up at him. "You get two because I wasn't sure where exactly you were referring to. Do you not like it?" she asked, smirking a little.
"Yeah, not psychic, am I?" He wasn't anything, as far as he could tell. No super powers for him. Just as well. He'd probably only do something stupid with them if he had any. Stupid, stupid boy... "And, yeah, I like it. A lot. You can kiss me.... any time you like..." Even feeling how he was feeling, the flirting was still evident. Hard-wired for it, that's what he was.
Penny smirked a little and cupped his cheek gently, kissing him again softly on the lips. "Is this helping you to relax?" she added on a teasing note, curling closer to him.
He watched her face as she kissed him and liked the feel of her body shifting to fit against his. Tony smirked right back - as best he could, given the givens of his face - and said, "Parts of me, yeah..." Then he kissed her back, as firmly as he dared. Pain wasn't his favorite friend at the moment. He didn't mind it, in controlled amounts and under certain circumstances, but Terry's punch wasn't one of them.
She didn't take his bold kiss too far, however, although she did return it. After a few moments she backed away and shook her head. "I don't think wearing you out is the best way to relax you right now," Penny teased lightly, her hand finding his and squeezing. "Maybe later."
Tony sighed. "No, it isn't the best idea... but the kiss was lovely, thanks." He kissed the tip of her nose and let his head drop back against the wall. Closing his eyes, he said, "You were going to sing to me, I think...?" He didn't mind the lack of sex right now. There was too much attached to it - not that it didn't already have it's baggage, but there was recent stuff. Extra baggage. Megan, God...
"I was," Penny smiled softly, poking his own nose gently after he laid his head back. "Do you have any requests?" She drew her hand softly down his body before grabbing his hand and lacing her fingers with his, kissing the knuckles on his fingers and watching him. She wasn't sure what was running through his head, nor was she sure she wanted to know, but she hoped whatever it was was calming down.
The way she kissed his knuckles was so... tender. Damn. He swallowed, determined to relax. Desperate to relax. Desperate for sleep and for the whole thing with Megan and Charles to go away - and that certainly wasn't going to happen. "Requests... Anything, really, though I should think Metallica wouldn't be very soothing... Do you know any standards?" Tony wasn't sure if she'd know what he meant by that. It would be ballad-type songs, from a different era. Swing, Big Band, Jazz, Blues... "You know... Ella, Billie, Doris, Frank..."
She grinned and pressed a kiss to his temple, before curling closer and starting in softly on a Blues tune. Penny just watched him carefully, hoping to see him calm down and eventually sleep.
Tony opened his eyes a little and looked at her as she sang, then he closed them again, slid down the headboard, arranged himself on his back on the bed and tried to let the music cover him like a blanket. Sleep. He could sleep, couldn't he?
Penny smiled and got up, continuing to sing, covering him with the blanket. Perhaps being in the position would help him to relax. She sat next to him and just stroked his hair, trying to soothe him into sleep.
He could feel an actual, physical blanket being pulled over him. It was a warm night, but it felt nice, anyway. Comforting. Penny was still singing, but Tony was losing track of the words. Did he let himself fall asleep with her still in his room? She could go through his bags and find out things he might not want her to know. "Nice," he murmured, liking the hand in his hair, too. He could feel himself drifting a little...
"Shhh, don't talk," Penny smiled, bending down and pressing a kiss to his forehead. She sang sweet nothings, the song having been done, watching him carefully as he slipped off.
"Hmmm," Tony said, listening to the rhythm of her voice. It interfered with the thoughts of death and the attack and the world ending and so many other things that wouldn't shut up in his head. Penny was giving him some peace, and whether or not it was wise to let her do so... Tony was a little beyond caring.
After a few seconds, Penny went to lie next to him, draping one arm across his chest and propping her head up with the other one, still watching him. Close, but not quite there yet. Penny wasn't sure how light of a sleeper he was. Would he stir and wake up if she tried to leave now? Or would he be konked out? She supposed she would lay there until she was sure he was in a deep sleep, and then leave him alone.
Tony was a light sleeper - one of his problems and one of his saving graces - and needed a bit more time to be truly asleep. He was aware that Penny was lying beside him and liked the weight of her arm across his chest. He preferred not to sleep alone - with a few exceptions - and since the shit hit the fan, he'd mostly been alone. This was nice. He might be able to sleep like this, with her there...
Penny let out a small smile, watching him. Relaxed, yes, but definitely not sleeping. Bending down, she whispered into his ear, "Go to sleep..." nuzzling her head gently against his. Her fingers caressed his side absently, and she hummed random melodies to him.
He smiled a little at her whispered words and whispered, "I'm trying to, but that's my problem..." Tony was still drifting, though, and that was nice. Penny touching him lightly and humming was almost better than singing with words. He might try to follow the words and that would keep him awake.
"Don't speak, silly," she laughed, kissing his cheek again and just sighing, continuing to hum. Penny was getting tired despite herself, it was a possibility she would end up passing out with him. Perhaps only for a little bit, but considering the timing it was strange anyway.
"Hmmm," he said, and Tony's mind pushed through whatever barrier had been preventing him from sleep. He sighed and let himself float away.
