Alex had turned to go but the question as to what had saved him made him pause. "I'll catch up in a minute," he told the man and went back to the head of the monster and squatted to take a look at the damage, his eyes narrowing slightly at the spikes protruding from its jawline. He grabbed a hold of one and pulled but it didn't budge. Frowning, he partially stood while still holding onto the spike and put his foot on the thing's jaw before pulling even harder. He grimaced at the sickening sucking sound as he pulled, nearly toppling over when it had finally been freed from its prison.
He took a handkerchief from his pocket, trying to wipe it off the best he could and trotted to catch up to the other two, making sure he was once again a safe distance from the woman. Naturally he had missed the flexing of the other man but he made it just in time to hear him mention rain which made him look up as well.
"We need a place as far away from here as possible," Alex commented and looked back down to the spike. Most of it had been cleaned off but his handkerchief was now officially ruined so he tossed it off to the side and pulled out another one. You never know when these things come in handy. From what he could initially tell, the spike appeared to be made out of bone. It was a bit exciting for him, to say the least, but further investigation would have to wait until they were someplace safe. "Some of the monsters seemed to have retained at least some intelligence, so depending on what monsters do show up at the scene, they may be able to tell there were humans about and they will come looking for us."
"I'm Alex by the way," he said, whether either of them cared if he had a name or not. "And in answer to your question," he continued in response to Reiko. "I was up north, at the medical examiner's office when it happened. No one else survived, they all turned into these...these things. Seemed like everyone around me was changing, like I was in some bad science fiction movie. I don't know what I would have done if I never came across more survivors, even if... and I'm rambling, I'll shut up now."
